Hey there, i have a ZC DOCH and even since i replaced my Distributor it's run like CRAP! If i retard it, it seems to work better, but i don't have a timing gun, i asked a shop by my work and they said it didn't matter but id like to ground the ecu and set the base timing... but i really don't know how.

So i'm willing to pay somone a little to get it done...i'm in scarborough...i'll go to a LOCAL shop or someone's driveway...

grab a timing light from CT or partsource and set it yourself would be the best IMO. All it consists of is connecting power, ground and a pickup onto spark plug wire #1. Then you just gotta line up a mark on the crank pulley with a pointer on the timing belt cover. This is done by pointing the timing light at the crank pulley and pulling the trigger so the light flashes.

Base timing should definetly matter. I had a shop just set my timing without putting the jumper on the ECU and it ran Horribly. After I set my base timing correctly everything was all good again. Hey MATTDS if you can temporarily just try to have the top bolt of the Dizzy set right in the middle and that's usually close to the timing you'll need. Otherwise when you take it to any shop and just make sure they stick a jumper in that little two pin connector by your ECU.

Hey there, i have indeed found that the best timing SEEMS to be just slightly forward (retarding i think ) of the centre spot. I have also felt that my car doesn't seem to want to rev up high and when i've adjusted the timing it's improved, i also just put in new wires and thats helped...but compated to my old d15 this motor just doesn't seem to liked being at 5000+ . COuld this be a cam timing problem? I do have stock cams though and as far as i know, it's never been changed, etc?
