wierd vteck problem ????
hi i have a d16y5 and my vtec dosent work
the only way i can get it 2 work is i fill the tank all the way 2 the top like so its all the way up the pipe 2 the cap then go drive the car after i stop the car and start it again it dosent work its wierd eh
any ideas my mechanik dosent know whats going on with it and he is a honda genius hehehe

have you tried to replace your gas cap? also, does your CEL function? it's supposed to come on when your gas cap is releasing pressure. when you go to start the car and all the lights come on, is the CEL illuminated?

no i can drive around with the gass cap off and no lights come on or anything
i think that is the CEL yea???
i heard of that and it dosent do that no engin light

well code 23 is the knock sensor. I bet its toast, prolly cracked or something. But vtec definately won't work if the knock sensor is toast. Does your CEL come on momentairily in the upper RPMs?
Replace the knock sensor and your problem should be solved.

i allready replaced it it was with a 2nd hand one is there any way of testing it ??
or making the computer think its working ???
i reset the comp and drove round town with the gass cap on the seat and no lioght came on then i pull in the driveway and the 23 came back up its a curcit fault or something i duno **** about wireing harneses

I thought a 97 should throw a code for a faulty gas cap.
Given your other code (knock sensor??) maybe you should take your car to someone who does know something about wiring... like Scott93hbsi or scott newman.

o i dont have them codes just 23 the only other code i have ever had was 14 and 65 but the 14 just went away wen summer started and then i replaced the o2 sensor
i also canot get my motor to redline any more this problem may be related they kinda started around the same time ????
it just wilnot rev any higher than 7000 dosent hit a limiter it just wont go any higher

my no vtec engine reaches 190 km/h stock and that's where it hits the speed limiter. before anyone starts trippin about safety, this was done at the GM test facility when I dated a girl who worked there.

not even the us ones because im prety sure mine did on the tack that is in the car its a stock tack the redline dosent start until 7000
i have beaten the **** out of this motor be4 and im prety sure the limiter kicks in at 8000 or somewere close and my car cant go any faster than 180 the fuel just cuts off the motor is totaly stock
its from japan if that makes any difference

ok i lift up the car and remove the knock sensor it was hand tight and i looked at the colour of the wire comeing from it it was red and green so i them move 2 the computer i removed the computer and looked at al the wires and i could only find 1 wire out of the 10000000000 of wired that was red and green so i then disconected the wire at the sensor and then put a new wire from the computer 2 the sensor
i then pluged it all back together and drove around the block and the code 23 came back on so i thaught ok it must be the wire is shorted somewere the old wire so i cut the old wire and only used the new one and i started the car and code 3 came up and the car ran like **** so i stopped it streight away then conected the wire back together ripped my new wire out put the computer back in its hole got all mad cus i hate wen **** is over my head and drove home the engin light dident come back on yet i only drove like 3 mins stil no vtec and no redline
so **** it im taking it 2 scott he can **** with it
