Question Why doesn't Short Ram need Air Bypass Valve?

I installed a SRI. I took out the stock air filter box, and the black box that supports the pvc intake pipe, not sure what that piece is called.... but looks like air was circulating inside first before it gets sucked into throttle. It was a bitch to take out.....

So now the SRI is in, and there is this big empty space in the engine bay where the old black box used to be. You can see the ground from there. Can water get into the cone from there?

Yes it could.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you drive through very large puddles..

CAI have a greater chance of sucking water.

I'm had a SRI for 3 years and never had Hydrolock..

What is hydrolock? When water gets into throttle?

hydrolock is when the engine sucks up enough water into the combusion chamber to cause rods to bend since water doesn't compress as easily as air. It calls for a new short block usually. A short ram may get wet, but will not suck in any water usually... plus the filter should be oiled, so water is repelled too.

The cone that came with the pipe is a cheap one, I am just gonna use it for a while then switch to a K&N one.

How about Apexi filter? Anyone uses one of those?

Ya I agree, it is just the A'pexi is almost double the price of K&N and I am just wondering if it is brand name problem, OR, the dual funnel thingy really works as it claims.

Claims are just that... claims. Look at what the racing circuit runs, and odds are, that's what really works. Cuz those guys don't need no excuses... they need blistering speed, so they use what works. K&N
