Whirring/clunking noises when I reverse
 

I got into my car today, started backing out of my driveway, when I hear a loud whirring/clunking noise coming from the engine!

It stopped when I put the car in park, and it seemed fine when I was going forward. I tried reversing a couple of times with the same result!

HELP!!! What is the problem? I don't want to drive the car right now in case it's anything serious, even though it seems to run forward alright.

I would take that to a mechainic. Sometimes mine grinds when i put it into reverse. Does it happen all the time? or jsut when you put it in gear?

mine does that because i chipped my slider for the reverse gear.... it doesn't hurt it it jus gets annoying

It just started doing that! But it only makes the noise when I move in reverse. It moves fine forward, and is fine when in park.

I really don't know what to do, since it's a 94 civic and I don't think it would be worth fixing if it's going to cost a lot.

OH, and it's fine in gear, it only makes that noise when the car's moving reverse.

I cannot believe this! I just came back from the mechanic and it turns out the bolts on my transmission were so loose, they were basically about the fall off!! That was the whole problem!

is it stick? cause standard cars make a whirring noise while in reverse.... is it real loud?
