wheres my oil?
 

when i do an oil change and 5,000km later i do another almost half of my oil isnt there, lets say not filled up like normal. No smoke is coming out and the car is fairly new 2000 SIR with 20km. Runs mint, idles mint. Nothing seems wrong. HELP!

do you drive it hard? are you sure you top it off right?

some cars like oil... my Saturn doens't burn or drip oil, but it uses it :p Haha... well, technically it burns oil, but it's normal for some cars. Have Honda put it on oil consumption watch...

i dont it hard at all, i baby that car, i sometimes wonder why i bought a SIR. As for the oil changes I dont do them myself, but after I do them I check and they are fine. Wonder what i would have to do to get it back to normal

Once a car starts to consume oil, there isn't anything you can do. What oil do you use? Brand and weight? You are certain there are no drips?

Have you owned it since new? How many kms when you bought it?

castrol GTX 10W30 I think. I'm certain there are no drips anywhere. I'm second owner, my step fathers friend bought it from the dealer, I bought it with 6900km on it. This has only been happening lately. It's not much lost but still it's not suppose to loose any.

my engine does that too... It runs clean as a whistle, engine bay sparkles (ie no leakes on anything) no smoke out the tail.... runs just as good as the day it came off the line... But my oil is almost half gone by the time 5000 comes... Ive heard of this in other hondas engins... I dont know if there is anything you can do about it... Ive started to try oil aditives...

i get the same thing... just buy an extra liter of oil and put it in at 2500 and everything is happy... i have a high milalge engine that is pushed to the limits often... so its to be expected for me

YEP but not for a 2000 SIR, never pushed only 20,000km.

Maybe thats what I need to do, I'm gonna start pushin it a little, maybe that will change it.... haha.

I also heard about those additives. I heard that if your motor is burning A LITTLE they do help. My friend has a 95 integra and his was burning oil until he put one of those in it, I'm gonna try it.

I think its "CP" something like that is the brand. It's a silver bottle with a red dot as the logo.

My car doesn't burn any oil. I've had since it was practically new. I don't bother checking the level anymore because it stays the same between oil changes. I now have 47,000 km on my Civic. Some oil consumption is normal but what you are experiencing is a little high, however, the dealer won't do anything until you are burning a litre/1000 km.

The cause of this could have been from before the previous owner got the car. The first 1,000 km of a car's life is the most important and if the car wasn't "broken-in" properly, that could be a cause. Another thing is the previous owner might have changed the oil too soon. The first oil change should not be done at least until 5,000 km. If it is done too soon, there could be problems. The oil from the factory has some additives which help the engine "break-in" properly. If the oil is changed too soon, you can have problems....

Also, I should mention, you are not using the proper viscosity of oil. You should be using 5W30 or 5W20. I use 5W30 Mobil 1.

thanks for the input. I'll be switching oil's to see what happens. The dealer wont touch my car cause its not burning that amount. Like i said it's a little more then half still left at every change (5000km). I think I'm gonna start changing it a little more often now as well.

If the previous owner was all ghay and ****, then in the first 1000 kms the engine was babied too much, and never broken in right...

Also, if you baby it, it'll be all carbon fouled... ****** give 'er every once in a while... Sun morning... 4-5 AM, get the car warmed up... go to the country road somewhere and go for a few rips, not drag racing yourself, but rather start off slow to save the clutch, and once the clutch is released, hammer it, take it to just under redline, don't power shift... just shift like a normal human being would.... let the synchros do their thing... row it up through the gears to fourth once a week to once a month is good practice. I recommend to do the following... do this procedure on a fresh batch of 5W30 mineral oil (dump and change oil, leave filter for now) - Castrol GTX is fine. About 1/2 hour of some spirited driving should be plenty good. Go home, let it cool for a bit, then change the oil and filter to Mobil 1 or Amsoil synthetic 5W30. You will be using that through the winter. Don't use additives of any kind in your engine. If you notice synthetic oil makes your oil consumption go up, it's normal... 1st of all you are using lighter oil than you are using now, plus it's synthetic. You can use Lucas oil stabilizer (it's almost like a friction modifier, except not...) to help curtail the oil consumption. The only other thing left after that, is to have Leitner re-hone the cylinder walls, install new rings, and break the engine in on the dyno, or use the TOUGH LOVE break in procedure that motorcycles use.

Ya Bruno is right. I seriously believe you should be using 5W30 all the time and an original OEM Honda filter. Mobil 1, Red Line and Amsoil are all good oil to use. Oh and always use synthetic. Why the hell are people using other oil's these days. If you stick to the oil your supposed to use **** like this probably wouldn't happin.

do you think its a problem when im burning 3.8l/700 km and my car doesn't leak one drop

meh motors will burn oil.....pistons get hot yada then the oil burns off on them....that's why pistons have brown "burn" stains on them when they are used......adn vtec burns oil plain and simple....adn "warped" pistons rings isn't even a correct term...maybe stuck or burnt or jsut worn....but I think you jsut need to do what was stated earlier and ream the piss outta it then get some mobile 5/30 put in it...10/30 is slightly heavy for a b16...jsut keep an eye on it dotn' jsut wait till the next oil change to fill it back up keep it topped off. Next oil change take it to mr lube and get them to run it on this machine that I forget what it's called but it will take all the carbon outta the head and pistons rings,,,,run synthetic forsure though and dotn' be afraid to open her up every now adn agian to "clean it out"...maybe soem "engine flush". But dotn' try additives they will do more harm than good....extra wear on bearings yad yada..most jsut make you oil turn into glue so it wont' seap out anywhere which isnt' good.....mayeb for a old ass v8 with 400 0000 km's on it that you want to last another week....

if u kick vtec alot then id say thats ur prob, my buddys prelude eats the oil when he kicks vtec....

Do you check your oil level between oil changes? I mean everytime i fill my car up with gas i check the oil..
And sometimes its down a small amount, but never a big deal, and i beat the **** out of my car.

The problem with 4 cylinder engines is that infact they dont have a huge oilpan, and you have to be ontop of the oil level, at one minute its fine - then next minute its low!
