Where can you get air ride?

?

Altered Altitude Customs at 416-396-3572
Underworld Customs at 905-319-3332

Both good shops. They do a lot of mini trucks.

You can get some off of our Volvo freight trucks, but I don't think they will fit your car. :D

Just one quick question. Do you know anything about Hydraulics?

For your air ride to work, you need an air compressor (which will rob 2.5hp from your engine), air tanks with drain valves ( 3 [one for the resoviour, one for front axle and another for the rear axle] all for safety purposes) or if you prefer one LARGE tank, you need a quick release valve (your safety device, so the air compressor does not keep pumping air...) think about this - what happens to a bolloon if you blow it past it's limits? You also need a control, and of course the Diaphragms (4)...

Now this setup is the best and safe, but it is the most expensive and takes lots of skills to installed or you can just get the cheaper package advertised in performance mags. But if anything goes wrong in one area, all things connected will go wrond as well. This technology is new to cars, because it is NOT cost efficient at all to have this system equip. But the quality in the ride is super PIMP, you cannot feel anything on the road, cause your riding on air, literally.

We have brand new $200,000 Volvo suspension get destroy cause the driver was not aware of the bumps on the road, and it costs these guys $10,000 to replace these units, but they still don't learn. There are Audi and there is also one other car that comes equiped, so I know for sure some company out there makes quality units for cars.

I have seen Semi-air rides... I have to look it up. But please be safe, in trucks, these diaphargms are high and protected, on cars they are exposed and low. If they blow, nothing is there to keep your car up. A Hydraulic system would help.

how about hydraulics?

im thinking of buying a cadillac after i sell my civic and get hydraulics how much woudl hydraulics cost not looking for competition just for show off

bbarbulo 12-Sep-2003 04:14 PM

$5000 minimum for reliable hydros. you can ghetto rig it, but why? Gotta pay to play

h_accordexr 12-Sep-2003 06:13 PM

5000 no my friend got his hydraulics for 1500 US

imported_gatherer 12-Sep-2003 06:28 PM

he said 5000 for reliable hydros... not to say you couldn't get them cheaper

The G2 Racer 13-Sep-2003 11:03 AM

ok....with air bags, a line blows you have nothing to clean up, just fix the line. Also you just have to put a compressor in your trunk (this can run off the battery and not the engine)
With hydros you blow a line and you have to clean up hydrolic fuild then replace the line. You have no trunk what so ever because it's filled with batterys and pumps.

Air ride is much cheaper and easier to fix any little problems.

EK7_DriftMania 13-Sep-2003 03:04 PM

All lines can run inside your car - Same idea as Subs and amps wiring. I have not heard of anyone that wired their wires outside of the car. Maybe there are some ppl, but you have to asked, where their heads at?

Air is alot more complicated, you will always have air leaking, always. Plus you have to inspect your car everytime you want to drive it and have to inspect the peripheral after you drive it, and you also have to let all the air out every day after you play.

Why do all this? As you all know, temperatures never stay constant. Hot air (compressed), meets cold tank and cold ambient air at night = condensation. Meaning water will form = bacteria (rust) and freeze etc... water is a bad lubricant. Your system would not work properly if it is not maintain. Truck drivers do this everytime they shut their engine off for a long time.

Ever heard about trucks killing 5 ppl or run into the barrier and on to incoming lanes etc... guess whos not doing his job? These fuckers killed tons of ppl on the road, I should be glad it is not anyone that I know or any of my family members. We at the Volvo dealership will spend 5 hours to just inspect our trucks, because we believe that our families are on the road.

So think about your habits, how well you want the system to work and how much money... and play safe. Also, remember to buy all safe devices, of course you don't want to die on the higway right... anyways, take care and don't drink and drift....

TauMax 13-Sep-2003 11:22 PM

Guys...

Forget the air rides...

Here's something better!
Semi-Active suspension, a-la Cadillac and Corvette.
You can buy the fluid from Lord Corp, and put it into modificed performance shock.

The only downside is that you'll either have to know someone who can program a computer to control the MR dampers or DIY...

Now this would be a worthy and challenging project. I saw on the web somewhere a Master's student successfully converted a regular shock into a MR damper....

The G2 Racer 14-Sep-2003 03:58 PM

Air Ride on a car is different from a semi. Post on some of the s10 forums and learn a bit more about the systems.

EK7_DriftMania 14-Sep-2003 08:23 PM

There are different setups, but the concept is the same for ALL!!!!!! systems... Read my post again.

How you get compressed air? Do you not need a compressor (electronic or neumatic does not matter), where is the air stored, what devices is needed to lift and lower the car etc... blahblahblah....
There is only one concept, but many applications. Like there are many engines, but they all do the same thing!!!

Hydraulics is still the way to go for a beginners setup.

By the way, there are books on this stuff, he does not need to go to S10 forums, it's good for getting ideas - I just find that on every forums, there are the ppl that knows their things and there are the bullshitters, I know you'll all agree on this one. There are tons of companies that make what he wants, but like what I have memtion along with Bruno - there are cheap setups and there are quality ones. How long you want it to last vs how much you want to spent? Also, who's going to put it together for you? I don't know if you have a shop or not, but this setup requires expert tools to do the job right. Your better off finding someone that can do it for you, then to try to do it yourself.

bbarbulo 15-Sep-2003 10:00 AM

I have heard of many hydros failing, and the result is usually catastrophic - ie. total writeoff of the car. Imagine the entire susp on your car just disappeared while you were on the highway offramp or on city streets.

I wouldn't put a cheap setup on my car that's for sure. I'd do hydros, though air is cheaper. Use a scooba tank, use CO2 as the gas... some of those load-helpers for high load pickups, and some valves - and voila - you got air. It's ghetto but I seen it before.

If you wanna ride dubz, you get air, if you ridy hydros you roll on 14s.
