When do you guys shift ?
I just got a JDM GSR swapped into my car with an 8 lb flywheel, and it revs pretty fast to 3000 rpm. I don't feel like I get enough power if I shift at 3000 rpm. I am satisfied with shifting at 4000 rpm, or atleast 3500. Will this wear out my clutch and engine much faster ? When do you guys shift for daily driving ?

i granny shift around 3500 rpm lol
|
Oh a borrring day I shift at 3K but normally you should **** betwen 3.5-4K..
|
Honda engines are small, and as such there are two things about them... 1. they don't make much torque so they feel slow and unsatisfying under 4000 rpm and 2. they handle revs around 4K very well.
Feature #2 also makes it essential to let the car do a little warm up for 1-2 minutes before driving, and also shift under 3000 rpm until fully warmed up.... and also it means that good, fresh oil (synthetic preferred!) is used at all times. |
I shift at 3000 RPM at the most. I either shift at 20, 40, 60, 80 range, or shift at 2000 RPM range if I feel like going really, really slow.
B, what is the OEM Honda engine oil, non synthetic? I don't know what kinda oil I am running LOL |
you can buy OEM Honda engine oil at the dealer, but that is not what they use for regular oil changes when you take your car in. It's at the dealership's discression as to what bulk oil they purchase, so it can vary dealer to dealer. Generally it's 5W30 petro-oil from Castrol, Quaker State, Valvoline or any of the other major brands... whatever company's sales rep managed to swindle the dealership's purchaser or service manager.

whats granny shifting? shifting at low rpms?
|
Right, slow shifting like a grandma.
So B, Castrol, Quaker State and Valvoline are not synthetic oils? |
I shift at 3000, 3500 and sometimes 4000 rpm. When starting in first be careful not to ride the clucth use low rpm's.
Trust me I learned the hard way. |
I usually shift at around 3-4k... but when I feel like driving, I shift at 5.5k or even 6k... :) That's ok, since I got Mobil 1 in there. It's running fine even with almost 200,000km on the odo! :) Hey, they designed the car with a 7k redline for a reason!

I shift at 9500rpm
Whats this 3000rpm BS I'm hearing.... |
