Wheels/rims questions

Ok so I have my new rims on and im very happy with them but im having some rubbing problems. I think the tires may be rubbing on the inside of the wheel well. It mostly occurs at full lock or almost full lock when turning even slowly. Im not 100% but i tried to raise the front up and it seems like its all the way up but ill check that tommorow when it isnt so windy.

imported_loudsubz 19-Apr-2004 08:10 PM

raise it

scarlemthug 19-Apr-2004 09:04 PM

If its rubbing on the inside of the wheel well, closest part to the engine, would raising it do anything?

coreyhayman 19-Apr-2004 09:06 PM

give us ur tire size, rim size, and offset

scarlemthug 19-Apr-2004 10:58 PM

Tires are 205/40/17 rims are 17 x 7.5 offset 45

OT, but what kinda rims did you get :)

imported_gatherer 20-Apr-2004 10:57 AM

I think those rims are too wide.......

how much have you lowered your car by?

bbarbulo 20-Apr-2004 11:01 AM

rims too wide... don't turn full lock :D

haha

1c6_eh6_t-si 20-Apr-2004 12:56 PM

Ideally on 17's you'd want 17x7 w/40 offset...

so not only is your rim wider, but with 45 offset the wheel is actually closer to the inside of the fender.
That's why it's rubbing

imported_gatherer 20-Apr-2004 12:58 PM

Chris take a picture of your tread wear and post it ... that will ussually show where it's rubbing

chris your needs a 40 offset a 45 is a little to much.

scarlemthug 20-Apr-2004 07:02 PM

Yeah I figured they were a little too wide. I raised the car today in the front all the way up and it hasnt rubbed yet so im gonna wait to see. IT would suck to have to sell my rims as ive only had em like a week:(. when I was raising the car today I saw that the inside part of the wheel well (closest to the engine was being rubbed on in a few different places.

scarlemthug 20-Apr-2004 07:03 PM

Dhiren - I got 17" rota subzero's in flat black

scarlemthug 21-Apr-2004 10:44 AM

Ok so it looks like I have to make a decision. I can go and put some spacers on until the wheel doesnt hit the wheel well. I'm guessing I will have to roll/flare the fender out alot if i go this route? I wouldnt mind doing it if it looks nice and not outta place.

Second option is to just keep em and live with the rubbing .

Third option is to sell and try and get my money back and buy new rims (17 x 7 40-42 offset).

imported_gatherer 21-Apr-2004 10:47 AM

thrid option is best .... IMO

try to sell them on a board of a car they will fit on.... thats your best bet for recouping cost....

scarlemthug 21-Apr-2004 10:53 AM

SO you dont think using spacers would be smart?

I recommend using the spacers...and I recommend you do it right away. Rubbing is not good, even with new tires. Make sure though your car is raised above rubbing on the outside fender. You can decide whether you want to sell after that point.

no

they change the stress loads on the car's suspension and if they are off (not the exact same width) they will cause issues...

however if you want to get some machined I recommend Concpets on wheels company Leitner Performance...

I also agree with ElectronBlue rubbing is a very serious issue...

let me see the problem at the meet tonight I'll bring my jack and stands and we can take a good look at options you have
