Whats average for an engine swap

i got a price of $1400 to put a d16y8 or d16z6 into my 91 civic cx. the guy says he can rewire my existing computer for the vtec to work. He also said that he wud keep my cx tranny in there. Is that a good price for it installed?? Do u guys know of any good shops that would do this swap at a decent price? If u do let me know. Thanks

If you can pay a bit more money a b16 a1 would be a great swap for your car. Why make it an si when yo can go for SIR.

imported_BoOsTd 10-Feb-2004 10:11 PM

cuz it will cost almost double.

if ur putting an si motor(which are really good motors) put an si tranny, i made a huge mistake, i got a 92 si hatch, and i had to replace the tranny cuz it was gone, i put a dx tranny instead and they are ****ing horrible, the gears are soooooooooooooo ****ing long and now im regreting the fact that i didn'
t put an si tranny in, trust me it makes a difference
and for $1400 the tranny should come with it especially if its a D16z6

dude u can prolly get a good deal i think its like 1900-2400 for engine and install on a jdm B16a1 engine SIR baby !!!
id get that or if u low on cash do the d16z6 vtec SOHC Motor , and rebuild it again then mod it n/a to hell no turbo .

ok...it's a bad deal cause you cant' "rewire" the existing ecu...he is a tool it's a dpfi motor...just do it write and get a sohc zc and si tranny...it will be way faster and cheaper....sohc zc (or dohc zc if you got mroe $$$) drops directly in..same obd so wirign is easier..get teh correct si ecu and si tranny and you will run circles aroudn that other POS done horribly wrong setup...stick to the dohc zc or sohc zc and get the si tranny than thank me later...

call up these guy's www.ksrd.com

and ask how much for a si tranny adn sohc zc into your car and do it..or call "altech"..but I think they woudl mainly deal with higher end motors like b16's on up..

DOHC zc(130 hp) or SOHC zc (114 hp) with si tranny..take your pic for your budget

that other setup will be soooo slow and run liek crap...stay clear of it

don't do a half assed job.. and no you can't just rewire the ecu ....

go all the way and get all the right parts ... jerry rigging something to work will result in lots of posts on here asking why it doesn't work which will result in a headache for me and the others that broswe this board..

grab a engine and tranny that are together that way you know the gear ratios are going to work well
get an ECU for that engine and get eh right axles get the proper wiring harness and aftermarket mounts if a B series engine then have fun

Heh, i checked out how much it would cost to get a new engine+tranny for my 93 si...
I went to two places, got a quote of 800, and 1200

1200 is way too high i thought!! The engine is old/cheap..nothing special!! I think you should keep looking dude, you'll find a price that's a bit better!!
And ya like the guy's said, for a lil more, you can get urself an older SIR (B16a)

your quote probably includes labour costs ...

Go with a ZC DOHC motor..Best bang for the buck now for the EF..But you want the unusual VTEC noise..LOL..Do the B16A1 without no doubt.

Good luck.
