what size tires to run?

looking to buy new rimes. Im going from 17's to 16's and i know i like the look of the profile of the 17 inch tires at 205/40/17 i know by going with 16's i will have a larger side wall, what is the usual size tires used on a 92-95 civic running 16's? i really dont want a huge side wall but i dont want to run elastic bands can anyone help me? pictures with the side wall size would be nice too. thx.

I'm pretty sure the recommended tire size for your car is 205/40/16 or 205/45/16. I have these on my EK. Good compromise between tire and rim.

205/45/16 would be the proper size, you can go to a 205/40/16

You can also use this to calculate what would be the best size to go to compared to the OEM size

According to that link...205/40.16 is the proper size for an EG.
