depends how fast you want your car to be... i have extremely light 14 inchers....

imported_cxtasy 16-Sep-2003 05:52 PM

if its for daily driving.. stick with 14-15"
just my two cents

iceburg_shorty 16-Sep-2003 07:46 PM

17's will look the best

misaki 16-Sep-2003 08:05 PM

wouldn't 17" make my car really slow tho?

h_accordexr 16-Sep-2003 08:20 PM

17's look good but will make your car slower but its not gonna make your car really slow

h_accordexr 16-Sep-2003 08:21 PM

get yourself some 16's and drop the car looks good, there is a guy selling 16's on classifieds he wants 700 with tires

DumbasSi 16-Sep-2003 09:12 PM

I have 17's on mine. I think they look the best with a nice drop, and I did not notice any difference in acceleration over the 15's I used to have.

dingus8 16-Sep-2003 11:14 PM

first off your car sint' really fast to begin with...not tryign to be a dick but it's no corvette so yes 17's will make it slower by addign weight and makgin yoru gear ratio effectively higher...I'd say 15's look best on a civic when lowered properly not to much of a drop...17's look way to big on them.......

imported_BoOsTd 17-Sep-2003 07:05 AM

go with 17 aluminum with a good tire...you will notice a huge difference in handeling...no tire flotation like u get with 15s...IMO 15s have too much rubber... If your stuck in between, then get 16s... 17s look nice... get a nice light set of 17, dont go for the chrome gino style rims, they will slow you down...my 17s weight less than my honda 15s, I noticed a bit of lagg right off the line cuz of the circumfrence, but once the tires are rolling there is no difference in speed that you will notice...

DumbasSi 17-Sep-2003 07:55 AM

I agree with BoOsTZeX. I think my 17's handle and brake way better then my old 15's. Loss of acceleration is barely noticable because my 17's weigh about the same as my 15's did. The only downside I found is that they ride alot stiffer. Use this to determine size differences http://www.7thgencivic.com/modules.p...tor&file=index

bbarbulo 17-Sep-2003 08:07 AM

Honestly, this bullshit about your car being slow on 17s  whatever, you won't break any speed records with your Civic anyways... 17s totally look the best! That being said, they make for a harsh and loud ride, and attract the attention of theives. They cost a lot, and so do the tires. I used to have 17s on my car but I sold them ... I never noticed a big diff in outright speed. I now bought 15s for my car... but my other car has another set of 17s, and I like it.

imported_BoOsTd 17-Sep-2003 08:22 AM

that tire calculator rocks DumbasSi  bookmarked it:D

imported_BoOsTd 17-Sep-2003 08:28 AM

bbarbulo is right, the tires cost more than the rims themselves in most cases... so you gotta pay to play, 1000.00 in tires every few years can hurt the bank.... But damn do they ever make a car look different... I think 18s are too big, and 16s, you might as well spend the extra$ and get 17s.... they are the perfect rim for a civic IMO... unless you plann on autoX or something...

Just make sure not to go chincy on the wheel locks....

bbarbulo 17-Sep-2003 08:59 AM

there is a nice set of superleggeras for $1800 for sale :nods:

17s on street tires will turn better autocross times than 16s or 15s, and I think they look pretty pimp, but there are some caveats:

1. Less tire means the car will loose traction with less warning. My 15s roll a bit, and let go very progressively. With 17s and low profile tires, it is much more of a snap thing -- the upper limit is higher, but it is more difficult to get to that limit without snapping into loosing it. This is what I like most about my 15s; I can hang the tail out all day long and look like a big pimp drift superstar.

:naughty:

2. Rubber and rims are more expensive.

3. 17s look better, but they attract more attention too. Good if you are driving past a bunch of hot chicks. Bad if you are driving past car thieves or police officers.

misaki 28-Sep-2003 03:18 AM

what do u mean that its bad when u drive around police officers?

Middlemiss 28-Sep-2003 03:35 PM

He means that police look for done up cars with big rims (and stereotype them as street racers) Which is BS..

People can have nice cars and NOT race them on the street!

now after reading this post I must reply.
Once upon time ago I had 17'S. But forget that now!! Who cares if they look nice, of course they have to look nice if your spending a couple of grand on them. 17's inchers and low profile tires suck big time. I tell you what, if you do get them your going to want to sell them asap. 17's are show rims. So if your planning on entering a car show then get them cause you'll get nice points. I've got a 99 si same as your car and 17's suck . your cars will goes all over the road cause of the tires. Forget about turning, always rub's, good luck on bumps loud ass hell! 17's are just a pain in the ass. Oh ya crap gas mileage too. DO NOT BUY 17s FOR YOUR SI. (unless you buy use) but still don't!! get a nice set a 15's or 16's lower your car 1-2 inches and it will look great. You know what just buy some sir's for now and if you want to go bigger get 16's later.
