What should i do. SiR, GSR, Type R or H22?
I am looking to buy a new motor within the next cuple of months. I have had my eye on the H22 for a long time but a lot of people say its too heavy for a 92-95 hatch. I also talked to one guy that had the H22 in his 94 coupe and he told me he had to get new front suspention. He recomended a type R b/c its lighter, almost equal hp and limited slip. Then i tryed looking for prices for a type R and some people told me im looking around at least 4,000 . Im just looking for anyones opinion on the subject, thanks.
Also is there any motors that can take more stress than others if i drop a turbo? |
what are your overall plans for the car?
you want pure speed? or a nice smooth daily driver? you going to turbo the car? or keep it all motor? if you want something that will be a good reliable daily driver...... B16 or a GSR....... plan on adding boost? go with a B18B H22's may be the pimp daddy of honda engines...... but that can be damn expensive if your swapping it into a 94 coupe...... the swap itself will be expensive cuz theres alot of work involved...... as well as suspension modifications etc. you'll need because the engine is so heavy.... if you want a good balanced motor........ go with a B16 or GSR if your going to boost....... B18B if you want pure speed........ get a type r ( integra ) and build it up from there hope this helps |
GO CRVtec lol j/k
H22 Power to weight ration issue & also quite expensive. B18C3/5 are expensive, around 7g's and so not worth it. so that leaves you with the B16 and a B18C1 Go for the B16 with the leftovers you can get a decent suspension, 4 wheel disc, so the car would feel good all around. Makes driving more enjoyable IMO; and you still have decent power on tap. A lot of ppl turbo their B16 as well. Boost on a high compression engine is a no no. |
GSR gets my vote!

if u wanna be like everybody else go b16.....if u want some bang for ur buck go GSR...i run a gsr in a hatch....nothing like it....i've driven b16 and they have no balls..i highely reccomend b18c1 gsr....type r is too expensive and with the money u save on going gsr u can build it even better and faster than a type r...and h22 ur gonna get huge understreer...the whole balance of teh hatch will be off...gsr has it all...i can get u a gsr installed for 4400 right now...installed by a professional mechanic not in my driveway or someone elses driveway.....b16 is only 1.6l gsr is 1.8l....u might think the only diff between the 2 is 10 hp...but no...gsr more tourge dual stage intake...better system...more tourqy feel....much much better motor...if u needa ny more questions answered PM me i'll tell u all about it

main bang for your buck is h22.. $3000 complete swap package from tiger japan.
Front suspension just needs integra springs.. It's not that bad.. and the reason ppl put h22 is for the torque diff between type r.. h22 produces 160 torque. h22 weighs 175 lb more than b series motors.. I can do the swap for you for $5,500 or so depending on swap package cost. The hardest part of the swap is installing the shift linkage. No doubt there is a lot of customization required, but how often do you see h22 civics? I'll have this civic done hopefully by next week..a 93 hb si.. if your still undecided u can come for a spin at the next meet and see. |
Id go h22a, like said best bang for the buck, most torque and displacement.
b18c vs b16 .... not that much diff, the torque is only like 17 more, and you cant say theres a HUGE diff because that small of a number there isn't. IMO just get a d16y8 and put a turbo on, youll get like 180 + WHP. |
yea turbo a d seris would impress me....h22 is definetly BANG....just gotta think of ur purpose for this car do u want a daily driver that is good alla round..or do u wanna slap around some highschool kids on the street with b16's..then h22 will do that for u and then some....but no doubt putting that kinda weight on ur front axle will result in heavy understeer ...but none the less a powerfull civic thats for sure...

the h22 civic is a good daily driver.. ask RCBH!
It's really not that much heavier.. 175 lbs.. besides, remove PS & PS Bracket there's almost 20 lbs. Remove A/C & Compresser and you got a lot more.. Plus HCP mounts keep the motor closer to firewall and tilted back a little.. That transfers some weight more to mid section.. Its not like your running tracks, as long as u upgrade the front suspension with integra springs it'll sit exactly like a civic. It doesn't take much to combat the understeer either. Type R motor alone costs more than everything you need to do the H22. even the GSR costs more than h22 motor. |

B16 gets my vote,
Quick_CX needs to be schooled by a B16A  |

very impressie....and SAM tisk tisk...well have to see about that schooling.....on the track of course
|
yes i see 2.2 civics alot...the H22 may be a cheaper motor but its the installation that gets u in the wallet $$$$$
|
If u get H22 then do what my friend did with his P/S A/C removed and put the Battery in the trunk and he also has accord front suspension on it

Wow, a lot of different opinion on engine swap.
Turbo only occurs once you reach a certain RPM right? So you wouldn't really feel it unless you slam the car, no? |
