You need a programmable standalone EMS ( AEM, Haltech, Hondata, Accel, Power FC, etc etc) to replace your ecu. The laptop will then be connected to the EMS so that you can control/log/monitor engine parameters. Just plugging a lap top into your cigarette lighter outlet isn't gonna get you anywhere.

Each EMS' user documentation will tell you the requirements needed. Typically you'd want a somewhat fast cpu, adequate ram, and a windows OS.

The EMS will come with software.

What you need to do is decide on which EMS you want, and read the user documentation so that you know what's required.

You would be best with a dedicated bare bones p90 notebook...

12 inch screen...

Value Village Victoria Park and Van Horne..

Price. $75...

How can you go wrong??

Just attempt the OS install in the store before you purchase it...

It's not that big of a decision. Get a laptop the runs Windows and you're fine. Make sure you get a laptop with a 9 pin serial connection. Most standalones still use serial communications and some new laptops only support USB.
