What exactly makes a ride bouncy?
#6
do a search, I wrote a mini-article on this not too long ago I think in a coilover vs. spring debate.
the short of it is... 2 things affect ride quality, springs and shocks. There are two types of shitty rides: bone jarring and nausiating.
A bone jarring ride is caused by using a race spring that is too stiff on the street. A nausiating ride is caused by shitty shocks that can't hold the spring rate.
Both conditions are downright nasty and also quite dangerous on the streets.

it's mostly your shock that's bad if your ride bounces a lot. This happens if most of the time if you lowered your car without upgrading your shocks(it's Always good to do both at the same time to save on labour).

But you can also have a bone jarring ride if you stuts/shocks are blown completely. (bottoming out) But this usually only happens if you droped the car too much, or you go over huge bumps.
Here, read up a bit.

From what I've seen, there's two answers here. First, if you're using unmodified springs (whether they're stock or aftermarket lowering springs) and the vehicle is "bouncy" (meaning if if hits a bump it continues to bounce up and down several times) then it is the shocks that are shot.
The other thing I see a lot is where people have cut their springs, which dramatically increases the spring rate. You see these cars driving down the road and they appear to bounce with every imperfection in the road. What's probably happening here is that there's no give in the springs at all, and the tire sidewalls have become the suspension. It may also be that, in these situations, the shock is way outside it's normal travel range and may not be damping correctly, making things even worse.
