what do you guys think?? TURBO or ALL MOTOR?

well this is my delema right now.

i can pick up a full kit for cheap. no name brands.
the thing is, i drive on the highway alot... and i was wondering if this will affect my reliability??

it will be running stock internals at a safe boost level running under 7lbs no more... as i dont want to pooch the motor.

im a bit nervous about it blowing up.
but the guy i talked to is from Hamilton and he Turboed his Lude, and it ran great.... this guy seems like he knows whats he is talkin about. he told me........ as long as i dont go boost hungry i wil be ok for reliability!

now for all motor.
i know that since i drive on the highway alot, i can justify the things ive done with my car and know what it will do.
if i go all motor it will be just like BOLT ON's not crazy.....

so what do you think i should do????
i really want a sleeper EM1.

Turbo seems that route. man im so confused... all b/c of my daily driving to work and back...... and im afraid of blowing it up

i'm building up a d16 right now... i'm thinking for this year i'll just make a high compression all motor engine... maybe next year swap pistons and cam and run a turbo set up... all motor sounds cool up around 9000 rpms but BOV's sound cool too

to do a turbo properly it'd cost more then 1500... but i mean the b16 is a very tough little motor... its short stroke makes it rev so well... so i mean if your not reving to redline while under boost i can't imagine you'll have any problems really... its not like your pimping an engine with 300 000 kms + like me

As long as the set up is right running a turbo daily shouldn't be a problem.

I mean, you can even set it at 3 or 4psi no? Keep your RPM low and you should be doing fine. Going at 100km on highway with around 2400 to 3000RPM shouldn't cost you too much of gasoline.

The other route is to beef up your engine a little so it can handle more boost. But still run it at low boost on daily driving and crack it up when you feel like it. At least you own't be stuck at 6 or 7psi cause you will always want more power.

NA is somewhat reliable compare to turbo (if you have no internal work done). If you want a reliable turbo engine, you will probably end up spending just enough money as building an all NA engine. That's how I see it.

If you want power and don't have too much to spend, then boost it and run it at low level. If you want to slowly build up the motor then I guess both way are fine. Power is power, no matter how you get it.

I kinda miss my N/A sohc... that AEM cai w/compcam sounded wicked, and I loved the way I had to drive it... REDLINE.

Now boosted it's faster but the power curve is definitely diff, BOV sound is cool but after just a couple months it's already wearing on me.

if you drive highway alot then you will be killing enough gas running a turbo otherwise if i was you i would still get a turbo just the fact that it will produce more power and it will create a big smile on your face.

Misleading facts....
As long as you dont you crazy on the throttle you can get better milage to your tank. The turbo in vaccum helps get your air easier.
As for the highway comment, Once you are up to speed and hold a steady speed you pressure decreases and you are not boosting at all. You dont have to boost even 1 psi to get onto the highway if you control your throttle position.
BOV..."every car has them"....they might have them, but most of them arent vented into the air and make a loud noise. Compare a sound test of any aftermarket BOV vs. a turbo DSM with no mods. You can barely hear the BOV.

I have been in many DSM running stock boost, and those running 15-18psi. The BOV at 18psi isnt near as loud as mine on my civic at 7psi. I run a 1st gen DSM BOV aswell.

I'll have to say no to driveability of a B16A turbo.

If you expect to have a useful car, don't do it.
