Question We're all looking for an answer to something

Hey hey!

Ok, I I've got a Vtec question for u guys. For it to activate, what sensors are taken into account to decide whether it comes on or not? VSS? O2? TPS?

I got my car with a pr4 (91 teg) ecu on a D16z6. It was running really rich and high idle. I got a P28 Ecu and put it in. It idles better now and seems to be in a smoother running condtion overall. Now, my vtec solenoid is not connected and I believe part of the wiring harness is cut or it's the incorrect harness. I'm not sure where to connect the vtec wire. I know it's a pin on the ecu, but my if VSS is not working will it kick in?(need a VSS by the way - if anyone's got one).

Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah.. I stripped and painted my car last summer and took some pics, this summer I'm gonna do it again, paint and wiring for stereo, maybe guages etc. I would like to know if there would be intrest if I wrote up a how to for whaever I end up doing, with pics. it's gonna be a lot of writing and pics, but I'm willing to do it if there's interest. I'll take pics regardless....

yes, how-tos are always of great interest.

now... VTEC takes into account water temperature, oil pressure, and MAP sensor readings and obviously RPM. it does not look at VSS, since VTEC can engage in any gear.

Ok, As soon as I get the chance I'll start on it.

Now, as for my vtec... I have a green wire comming out of the solenoid, I believe it should go to the ecu. What pin should it go to? I tried to look in the haynes manual, but it doesn't say vtec... has some other letters. I'm not 100% sure which it would be, so I don't wanna start hooking up things to the wrong place.

Vtec does look at the VSS. Thats why you can't engage vtec while parked. I can't remember what the speed is but you have to be above a certain value for vtec to engage.

That's what I thought (about the VSS). Ok, I'll look in the Haynes book and see which of those pins is right. Thanks.
