Water from exhaust?
 

I've noticed on other cars, that sometimes steam and water drops come from the exhaust. Today, my car was doing it. What causes this? Is it bad? I'm just assuming that it's condensation somewhere. Any thoughts?

Happened to me when I didn't drive my car for about a month. At least a liter of water must have poured out, it was pretty funny, kinda like a huge super soaker:umbrella:

If you do a lot of really short driving trips, like drive 30 seconds to go to the store, school or work, etc, expect a lot of water.

It is normal, but not very good for your car. If you don't run your car long enough to let it warm up, evaporate the condensation that collects inside, and shoot it out your exhaust as vapour, it will settle in your pipes...

Water in your pipes will cause rust, which means expensive repairs.

I live in a fraternity where a lot of the members drive to school, which is about a 30 second drive away. Every month or so, we're patching a hole in someone's exhaust. Thankfully most of us drive beaters so it's not a big deal.

isn't water (vapours) one of the by products of combustion?

water is a by product of PERFECT combustion. since in all cars perfect combustion is impossible, the closer you get to perfect combustion, the more water you get coming from the exhaust

Some of it is also because your catalytic convertor is converting the hydrocarbons (H, etc..) to water (H2O)

So, if you're losing water out of the exhaust, would that mean that your engine is running very good?
