Vtech Controllers.......
Hey..... just wondering if a vtech controller is worth buying for a 1st gen B16 with intake/header/exhaust
or would it not really make a difference untill i have more stuff done.......
and..... how "user friendly" is the apexi unit?
Thanks!

I'd suggest starting looking at the final picture of what you want then building it up from there but in my opinion fuel and timing and ignition should be the next things to look at after that vtec engagement can be moved by chipping the ECU which is ussually the finial stage of tuning

dopey, your question is somewhat vague.... what do you mean by "user friendly".... if you mean can you use it and does it come with a manual, the answer is yes. I mean, depends on you, cuz to some ppl a door **** is not user friendly, you know
Anyways, I cannot see you really benefitting from a VTEC controller without things like a set of cams, a new intake manifold and maybe a valve job or something... basically, not there yet. Just hold off on the electronics and tighten up your internals first. How many miles?? Maybe it's time for a little rebuild?

chpping however should be one of the last steps on a honda engine it's just way better to improve the other things like the stuff listed in bbarbulo's post now if you own a dieseal thats a different story but howmany people here have a diseal engine under the hood?

thanks bruno
by user friendly........ i meant is it a pain in the *** to use?
cuz i've heard from a few ppl that its "difficult" at first......
and YES the rebuild is on my mind
going to start saving once im done with a few minor things
rebuild, cams...... pistons, valves....... all the goodies

no prob When you build your engine, keep in mind the final use for it, and I would say to stop buying bits and parts now, and save as much as you can for the build, cuz the better parts you can jam into your build, the better quality motor you will have. I think you ought to use all OEM parts in the internals, like ITR pistons and as much as you can... B16B valves, springs, retainers, etc.... I mean build a really really bad *** motor. That is for N/A. If you go forced induction, it's a different story, but having a CRX, I think N/A will be just about right for you.
