VTEC voltage

sorry mods...dunno what forum to put this thread in.

okay, just wondering how much voltage goes through a vtec wire, and i want to help put my friend's vtec light, we blew like 4 led's already. so we're wondering how much is outputed during the time the vtec is engauged. so we can get a proper resistor. thanks guys. any help would do.

Put a multi meter (Voltage meter) across it. You can pick one up at crappy tire I think, rather cheap and very useful. Doing electrical stuff w/o one if like driving blind!

jaysi, don't i need a voltage range to set it in the first place?
cuz i do have a multi-meter
but i need a test range right?
so i dunno..

Alright, this is my last attempt to help you...running out of ideas!
After reading alot of How-To's nobody used a resistor and just hooked it up directly. This is the best how-to I could find with pics etc. Hope this helps..

yeah i know.. none of them have a resistor so i do not understand why its blowing.. its properly grounded and ..
grrr i dunno man.
but thanks jaysi, talking to some peeps with HT. and they are wondering the same as well, but i'll just have to speak with an electrician about this. thanks for all the help though for sure..

The computer sends 12V to the VTEC solnoid.

LED's require very little power to operate, and a inline resistor should be used to limit the current drain on the solnoid (since your dividing current to the LED and solnoid). Make sure your not connecting your doides backwards, or they'll blow like you mentioned.

hey BB1-4WS. tahnsk i know about the psoitive and negative lead, but what happen was taht we didnt' know the what the voltage was that the ecu was sending to the solnoid. so we used a 300 ohm resistor and it still blew, but now we used another one and with a brighter led, and so far it hasn't blew yet, but i mean, this time i used a hyper bright blue, and damn is this thing bright!!! hehe, now that is a vtec light.. hehe and i love it when people sit in the passenger side and say "what is that light" and i just go hwat light hehe, and make them look at it and just punt it a little and boom in there eye!!!!
hehehe
-> currently using different LED, and resistor. the past leds, the led was 3 v and like 20 ma, so the led just fried in no time. so far 3 days and counting....
