VTEC question

i have a 89 SI and i have a Vtec head from a 93 hatch. i was wondering if it was worth installing on my current engine, Will it make a big difference? or should i just wait and swap a B series motor.

i also heard that putting a D16Y8 is a good mod as well? Any one done it??

thanks

the D16Y8 and the D16Z6 are pretty much almost identical, and if u want my opinion..no its not worth it , i would just wait for a B series

if on a budget, a mini-me swap is a great option. Get the head milled down a bit for a bump in compression.

i did a minime swap on my ek, and it feels quicker at high rpm's which makes sense but for some reason its as if its slower in the 0-4000 rpm range....

shouldn't be 1Solid_DX... if it is indeed slower there may be something not right about the tune.

ORRR.... perhaps your DX tranny is killing it. Do you run a Si or DX tranny??

It all depends on how fast you want to go and how much you want to spend? Mini-Me's,ZC and other D swaps are great for two reasons. Ease of installation and Price. They use stock mounts and can be had for very cheap considering the poer yoru going to get. But alot of people who do ZC/Mini-me swaps just aren't satisfied. There quicker but not by much. And a Boosted D motor is only going to Run 14's if you know what your doing. A B motor with a Few bolt on's is Hitting 14's no problem with Much more potential down the road. I have a ZC I got for $50. I was going to install it and get soem bolt ons. I didn't, I bought a B16 yesterday instead. Im a speed freak and knew from other people that a ZC just isn't fast after about a month. Its QUICK but not FAST. Big difference. If speed isn't your first priority than just bolt the Head on. It will still be a pretty peppy car since its a hatch. But if you wanna go wreck V8's and like spending all your money on performance parts(like me) than don't waste your Time. As far as speed is concerened-----Go "B" or go home.
