VTEC Question

I was wondering for the people who have the JDM D15B engine in their cars (or not) when the VTEC engagement kicks in? I am getting a swap very soon but want to know when it kicks in so I can test if it's working...Or anyone know a diff way of testing?

Thanks!

its hard to really tell when the vtec but it starts to pull around 5000 rpm. Try wiring up a vtec lite so when yoiur vtec engages, it lights up. U can even test it by not wiring up the vtec, taking it for a spin, then wiring the vtec up and taking it for another spin and see if u can tell a difference

I've felt it... or heard it I should say it's easier to hear if you have a short ram... just stick a cone filter at the end of your throttle body and go for a boot. at VTEC, it should go a little something like this:

vrooooooommmm....VROOOOOOM haha

H22 vtec kicks in at 5250 RPM...It is probably a similar number on the D series.

With the intake and the header it is loud...as for the power, eh it is not as impressive as it sounds.

It might not make much of a difference in a prelude, but in a civic, it really does feel like a small turbo kicks in!

It does push you back a bit in the lude too, but I'm really disliking the front end lift I'm getting at max torque. It is not converting the road the way I would like it to.

d 15 doesn't have vetc, only d16s have vetc. i think. also, should not never ever use cone filter in a vetc engine couz it doesn't give and performance to the engine. you can see form JGTC, THERE IS NO VETC ENGINE USEING THE CONE FILTER.

that's cuz you need JIC Magic coilovers or some Fightex or Ohlins *drool*

manwithredeg, better put down the bottle of tequila JDM D15 from the VTi Civic has VTEC, and also LSD tranny, made 130 hp too!!

and it sounds like this:

vrooooommmmm.... VRROOOOOMMMMM! lol
