VTEC VFC CONTROLLER -
Hey guys i was wondering if somone can give me some information on Vtec Controllers. Im thinking of Apex-i, im basically clueless about this stuff so some enlightenment is much appreciated. As im planning to get one not too expensive. just adding to give the car a simple kick that I can switch back and forth. As i understand it basically allows u to set ur fuel consumption and when vtec kicks in??

Getting it tuned

ya, IMO its a waste of money.
For what you would pay for just the VAFC unit alone you could get your ecu chipped and a custom chip made for your ecu (pm me for more info).
VAFCs just alter the MAP sensor signal so its tricking the ecu into thinking its seeing different conditions than it really is. This is bad for many reasons, such as, when you try to increase fuel you adversely are retarding ignition timing, and vice versa for decreasing fuel. With these vafcs if you change the vtec engagement point from 5500 rpms to 5000rpms, when vtec kicks over its not actually switching over to the vtec maps stored in your ecu, so its likely not delivering the right amount of fuel.
I've run some pretty high whp cars daily driven off a custom chip for their ecu.

but can the car be tuned to work with the contoller properly so it is distributingthe gith amount of energy, fuel etc. the reason i am considering the controller is the ability to change it as my driving needs change, hence if i wanna drive it a little harder i can and when im just around town driving the kids around it can be in regular settings.

well, without a wideband o2 controller you'll be adjusting your fuel in the dark without a clue what the AFRs (air/fuel ratios) are, which is potentially very dangerous.
A well tuned ecu will have the best of both worlds, the part of the map that is for fuel economy is in a completely different area than the part that is for max power and wide open throttle. So there is no need to be able to adjust the fuel while driving to get the best of both worlds. You'll get max fuel economy and the best performance with a custom chip.

LOL your engine is stock besides an intake right?
Save your money, it's not like you will 'feel' any improvements to your car unless you have had the car mildly built, tuned and using the vafc to do some cleaning up

why would you want to do some "cleaning up" with a vafc? Didn't you read what i wrote about how changing things causes other bad things to happen? Why mess with a good thing?
Its auto too, honda auto trannys weren't built what-so-ever for performance.

excuse my ignorance but I'm a complete n00b in 'tunning' section and from what I read on a site and seen in the omni man dvd is that either using the SAFC or VAFC.
I thought while tunning with chrome/hondata you can use the controller and adjust 'other' settings fully.
Like I said, I'm far off probably but I remember reading somewhere that people have done it if anything, but it's not very popular on pgmfi.org
