Vtec

Hello everybody,

I'm wondering how do you know the difference between the Vtec engine and non-vtec engine? when do you feel it (Vtec)?

The fastest way to tell is if there is a Vtec solenoid near the distributor on the side of the head, and you usally wont "feel" vtec engage on a smaller stock Honda motor ie. 1.6 SOHC, on a b16 or GSR motor its a little bit more noticeable when the high cam kicks in. And the point VTEC engages on is different on each type of motor that is equipped with it.

Thank you very much for all your reply, I appreciate it... that's explain why I didn't feel/notice it co'z the car right now it's all stock (1.6 SOHC) I guess I'll just have to be sensitive in driving my car to "feel" the VTec
power and try to reach the 5grand rpm .

How does an aftermarket intake manifold & pipe/filter improved the Vtec power of my 1.6 SOHC engine? Does it make sense to upgrade 'em, with the intention of getting extra power? I know there's a lot of way to do it (improve) I just want a simple and inexpensive way, donno where to start, please fill me up...thank you

nah, i bought it online from some little private website, i forgot where though, but i'm sure you can find it on google.com or on ebay.com

i asked for green, but sent me orange...this was over a year ago, i guess you can save on gas so you know when you hit VTEC or not

you have a d16y8, they came stock in all 1.6 EL, it is a 1.6L SOHC VTEC engine that makes around 128 hp

No such thing as a simple or inexpensive way to increase horsepower. It takes money, knowledge and the right combination of parts that will work well together.
