valve adjustments

I know this has been mentioned before, but I couldn't find the post for it. Anyways, I have a B16 and I need my valves adjusted. I don't really feel like paying anyone to do it, so I was wondering if it's an easy job. If so, what's that tool that I need, where can I get one and how much does it cost? Can someone also please list the steps on adjusting them? Thanks.

if you don't have the tools then get a shop to do it

it's way too easy to screw it up if you don't know what your doing

No way it's gonna take under an hour, you need to cool the motor down for at least an hour before the top can be pulled off.

I forgot that...but the actual part of adjusting the valves takes under an hour......a shop doesn't charge you for letting the car cool down....well they shouldn't charge you for that!

Tools:

Torque Wrench & drive sockets
Feeler Gauge
RTV sealant
valve cover gasket

Steps:

Get a repair manual

Not a very hard job if you know what you are messing with and have the proper tools. But if you don't, I suggest you not to touch it.

You don't really need to adjust them unless you have a new valve job done, or put new components in.

Just wondering, if you dont really need to have it done then why does the honda manual recommend adjusting your valves every 48000km?

Sorry, I don't have the answer for you.

Maybe you go ask Honda why when you go next time and tell us the answer afterward.

I haven't gotten mine adjusted ever since I put my motor in, which was about 2 and a half years ago and about 60,000 kms. How much would they charge to do this? I got a quote from one place that'll do it for $80. Is that about right?

$80 sounds like a good deal. most shops charge about $100+.

just make sure that the shop does good work. this is definitely not something you want them to do a half-*** job on.
