V-Tech Head Swap? What's needed?

Right now I have a non-Vtech engine in my 93 4 door lx. I'd like to know what do I need for the swap?

bbarbulo 23-Sep-2003 06:24 PM

donesixer or cablerat could prolly do it for you...

it's VTEC by the way...

you need, head and everything attached to it plus ECU :p That's the short list :) you want the long version, you can do a search for it...

punkindrublic 23-Sep-2003 06:30 PM

you can use your stock exhust manifold... i think you can use the stock intake manifold to... although changing intake manifold is something you want to do for performance

MonoDJ123 23-Sep-2003 06:41 PM

I dont mind about the exhaust head or anything like that I just want the vtech to work right.

punkindrublic 23-Sep-2003 06:44 PM

have d series vtec is nothing special anyways... you hardly notice it coming on to be honest.... you'd probably be better to spend that money on suspension work

mini me can be potent though, go on D series honda board and read up, some guys got nice mini me setups.

red90dx 23-Sep-2003 08:00 PM

it does make power

for instance the difference between d16a6, and d16z6

vtec is a good gain, but on sohc it only runs intake cam.

white92d15b7 23-Sep-2003 08:28 PM

do you need to change the lower timing belt sprocket ?

you definetly need an Si dizzy cuz there different the stock cx one in a 92-95 doesn't bolt up right already had this problem thats one word of advice only 2 bolts line up and not very close you will need to arrange your wires correctly if you stick with the stock one but im sure it doesn't work

at least someone does some research

anywho, depending on what head you use, you will need different ish.

1 vx timing belt
1 water pump (change it because your down there anyways)
1 p28 ecu or p06 that has been converted to a p28 (pm me)
1 vtec head
either a z6 or y8
the z6 will flow better at higher rpm
the y8 will raise compression more 10.6:1 to be exact
the z6 will need a z6 bastard child distributor
the y8 will let you use your old b7 distributor

you will also need to run 1 wire (not 2) to the ecu for the vtec solenoid. the vtec oil pressure sensor can just be grounded, or disabled in the ecu itself.
if i remember correctly its A4 that the wire has to run to, it may be A6... i forget.

i would suggest an intake manifold swap... and get the y8 exhaust manifold if you dont already have an aftermarket one.

set up properly a d15 or any d for that matter will walk a b16 for half the cost of a swap. its just a little more work.

to do a vtech conversion u need to first go to bell and grab a vtech phone of ur choice and then bring that phone to ur house and remove the cable from the wall and then replace it with the VTECH cable and ur set;)

(sorry dude i had too do it) :D

red90dx 25-Sep-2003 08:15 PM

vx timing belt is for 92+ motors
si/dx/cx for 88-91 I think...

get the y8 intake manifold if you can too they are the type R of intakes.

Sounds like more of a hassle then anything... just swap out for something better, and maybe you can find a complete d16z6 setup - someone had it on here in the classifieds cheap..

Joe

my d15 makes more power than a b16.... why swap?
oh, and it has cost me less than a $1000 (US)

btw MonoDJ123, if you need a d16z6 head, i have an extra laying around the garage that i can let go cheap.

red90dx 27-Sep-2003 08:20 PM

i have a y8 head also, EVERYTHING fits up to this setup even better than the z6 head swap...

or maybe i know how to build an engine

edit: i just noticed your sig, i assume your one of the guys from L&B. do you guys still do work with the single cam motors?

:haha: naw, he prolly just found that sig somewhere on honda-tech :D j/k

:wavey: Hey Steve, nice to see you posting again!! :shakehand

as for the single cam vs twin cam.... why would there even be a debate... i mean the B has TWICE the number of cams, therefore it must make TWICE the horsepower :D haha

perhaps we should all swap v8's then

twice the cylinders, twice the power.

off topic, you know what burns my ass? i started working on 4 cylinders thinking it would cost half as much... there are only half the pistons and rods. yet my friends building a 360, and it only cost him 75 (US) more for pistons and rods..
