V-tec problem, or something else?

Ok to start off we are talking about a b16 motor here. Well everything was fine, until the last couple of times i pushed the car i noticed my car is not running right from about 6,500 rpm's to redline. I just got my ecu chipped recently, now red lining at 8,500 rpm and i put on a header but everything was fine up until a few nights ago.

Bacially what happens is, i floor it, everything is fine, my v-tec kicks in around 5,500 rpm and everything is cool until i just get passed 6,500 and then it almost seems like the v-tec is engagind and disengaging rapidly, like turning on and off...this happens quickly like its on for a second then off then on than off...and the car naturally shakes (goes faster than slower, faster slower back and forth).

Now im not even sure if its the v-tec thats doind that, maybe its something else, maybe a lose connection somewhere, its as if the car chokes back and forth, like something being blocked...hard to explain...

Oh and my engine light has not come on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are your revs dropping during this or continuing to climb?? Rev limiter?? Fried chip??

the rpm's dont really drop...they jump...like slow down go up slow down go up according to what the engine is doing...my rev limiter is at 8,500 but maybe its something to do with the chip

if your car was fine without the chip..and now it does this then its prob your chip.

check your oil level, could be the oil pressure dropping causing vtec to disengage and then oil pressure picks back up quickly and engaging. I would go back to stock ECU program and see if anything changes, just start eliminating things and you should figure it out fine.

^ Yeah I'd definitely check your oil level. Sometimes Vtec can really burn your oil.

could be the vtec solenoid or pressure sensor. Or the wiring. Was your car originally equipped with vtec? or did you have to wire up the vtec solenoid and pressure sensor? Could be a crappy soldering job or lack there of.
All you really need to do to put the ecu back to stock is cut the jumper wire at J1. Or you can try another chip (pm me if you need help with that).

^^ so thats why my J1 was cut on my ecu.

Damn second hand crap.. it was giving a weak signal for a day untill i soldered it back up..

anyways.. it sounds like you got a weak signal somewhere. I'd just eliminate things as you go. First check your chip though

try and make checking your oil every other time you fill up with gas a regular habit. Also check your coolant, power steering fluid, and brake fluid, make sure things are ok.

i agree 150% with Andrew. Definately check all your fluids every other week (imo) and if they seem to be low top them up with the proper brand of fluid, if you keep on top of your fluids, especially oil.. you'll have a good running engine.
