Use more gas in winter?
Just a quick question.
do you use more gas when its cold outside than when its warmer? any comments would be helpful, |
Cooler air is more dense and therefore requires more fuel to achieve a stoichiometric(14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel) mixture in your combustion chamber.
Also it takes your engine to reach optimum(read: most efficient) operating temperature when its cold outside. Factors such as removing heat from the engine to warm the interior and the running of the A/C compressor to defrost your windows will also increase your fuel consumption. |
Not to mention no traction in first gear, fuel wasted when you put your foot on the gas and car does nothing but spinning its front wheels.
|
not to mention fuel wasted idling ur car to get ur car all warmed up
|
most people also let there car run in the morning for 5-10minutes to get warm before they leave.

ya...one of many reasons why winter sucks, but it's better then other places and a lot better then what's going on in the u.s
|
I know....imagine a hurricane comes thru and takes away your ride..:'( Id be soo dishearted...then again Id be happy that Im alive.
I noticed a few done up trucks, cars, in those hurricane videos. |
it's taking away more then just cars
|
yeah..like lives for example
|
everyone wastes a lot more gas warming up their cars before they drive (if you dont then its just bad for your engine)
also the gas companies have addatives in the fuel in winter (probably so its less likely to freeze) which reduce fuel economy. |
My car gets to rest 5x or more a week now. :D I'll probably be filling the car up every 3-4 weeks now.

Does the heater use electric or fuel?

i live like 3 mins away from the highway and my car was always at operating temp before getting there in the winter, this is with no more than 1 min ofof warm up.
i believe you should keep the revs 3000 rpms or lower until its at operating temp |

Originally posted by mugenpowered k thanks, I guess I won't have to let it warm-up very much or anything. But just incase it isn't warm, do you know what speed in 5th is below 3000rpm? (thanks to my CX model I don't have a tach) |
