Two questions
I need some help with 2 things. First off I need a place in scarborough that can change the oil on my car. My car is pretty low and i dont wanna take a chance with scratching or damaging the side skirts.
Second there is something wrong with my starter I believe. For some reason everything was working fine but when i turn the key to start the car it sounds like the starter i hitting the flywheel or atleast thats what my buddy told me. Anyone had this problem or any idea how I can troubleshoot? I got the car started after about 10 minutes the car started up and now it starts up fine ?

for the starter it might be the teeth on the starter? mine used to start sometimes not start others...but when the starter was removed a lot of the teeth were gone... it made like a clicking noise when it wouldn't start which might be what your noticing?

yeah it sounds like a clicking, not a relay clicking but like something hitting something else thats solid. How does this happen to a starter? Did you just replace your starter and everything worked fine?

hmm, that could be it to. IT would just make a clank noise and then nothing. When it finally started it did the clank noise and then started up. Then when i got home it started up perfect?
BtW matt, your a DIY kinda guy.............what would i need to change my own oil. I have jacks but no stands, what else would I need and what is a good oil for a stock engine?

chris, take the starter out and put it on something then ground it on the negative side and put the + on the + side and see if it goes crazy...if it does that means it should be working fine....if it just sits there its most likely dead.

when i got my starter fixed they removed it and showed me the teeth which were pooched... then they repalced the gears or something and its worked fine since i'm not actually sure was it was they replaced but it wasn't a new starter

ur gonna need some stands (safety first)...other than that...14mm wrench or socket for the drain plug, oil filter wrench to remove the filter and of course oil 10w30 or 5w30 (your choice really) and I like to throw some Lucas oil supplement in there...its an easy job, I dont change my oil myself cuz I get them done for free but its easy enough to do

with out actually seeing the car my guess would be starter soleinoid ,which is part of your starter,so that would mean a starter replacement. the solenoid is like a relay only much heavier(100-150amps) what should happen is this ......when you turn your key current from the ign.switch goes to the starter soleinoid.......the soleinoid contacts then close and send current from the battery to the starter motor...... whats happening to you is the pieces in the soleinoid are moving but not closeing the contacts there fore no power to the motor......starter does not turn....I hope I didn't lose anyone ....tried to keep it simple........again that is only a guess.........hard to fix cars over the computer....lol

opps I forgot........ I use Lucas too .......good stuff....some civics use 5W30 some 10W30 depending on year.....Chris I think yours calls for 5.......you can use 10 if you have high kms....say..uhh..150,000 plus....... that my opinion

Hey guys, well the car has worked flawlessly up until 10 minutes ago when i went to start it and same problem. Loud noise which im guessing is the starter hitting the flywheel? Where is the starter located on a stock DX coupe?

ok so i just played around with all my power and ground connections and the car just started up fine twice in a row. I am guessing maybe there was just a bad connection or something? Or atleast thats what i hope.
Anyways where can i get oil changes for a really low car in scarborough?
