Turbos are making me go nuts, I can't get if out of my head!

I think the thirst for power and torque has gotten the best of me. I can't stop thinking turbo-ing my car. Even if I shed more weight from the car, it may benefit power to weight ratio, but weight saving can cost money when you start replacing parts for lighter material, and that can be even more expensive at times than say, adding a turbo.

This thread may be useless, but I suppose I just want to share the thought and lust for more power. Driving skill does matter, but there are times when the car just can't do better times and the only way is by adding power.

sigh...

you should go for a rip in Sals (hondab16a) turbo b20 crx.....you'll be sold in no time.

Put a t3/t4 .48a/r on it and you'll absolutely love the car for circuit racing. Turbo lag is very minimal with a smaller turbo on a 2L. With your engine breathing as well as it already does the turbo will only enhance that....especially with that short geared tranny.

BOOST IT nova BOOST IT

I daily drive my turbo civic year round.

Polkaroo Killa 17-Jul-2008 12:10 PM

Do it Charles!

If you track your car, just get a smaller sized turbo(T28/T3) that spools up nice and quick in the low rpm range, and then you'll have that extra power you seek.

:yo:

Well, if you still have a D16, I have the turbo kit I never ended up using that I put together for my own D16. Gt28R and all. Just throwing it out there, to tempt you further :)

SELL THE CIVIC AND MOD NSX WITH ME!!!!

i'm kidding, just turbo it!!!

Nova_Dust 17-Jul-2008 01:50 PM

I am running a B20 now, no longer a D16.

From past experience, piecing together parts can go over budget at times. I have been looking at used turbo kits (hytech, full race or some other custom ones) and the price usually ranges from $1500 to over $2000 dollars, and more than that. My goal is if this is the route I go, I promise myself not to go crazy on parts again. I guess I am thinking about the turbo because my debts are almost cleaned up now... haha

Way to go smart ass, it is true about the saying that men cannot have money, they will either spend it on women or some other things - car for instance.

Idea is to get a completely used turbo kit for $2000 or under, or there about and spend $600 on dyno tuning (not sure if street tuning is needed again?) The charge pipes are most likely useless as every car is different, and I do like the smaller intercooler, like OEM Saab, Audi ones. And with running a full size 55mm radiator + stock fan, space is kinda limited.

zeeman 17-Jul-2008 02:30 PM

there is lots of space for a decent sized FMIC on EK's

SaYjAiBaO 17-Jul-2008 02:46 PM

turbo on your b20 is a great idea but you're not going to drag races with it charles. you're going to be lapping with that. boosting on stock internals with the stock saimese sleeves is kind of iffy. especially if you're out for like 15 mins at a time beating on it. even all the turbo guys on h-t who lap their cars have sleeved blocks and go over the top with cooling. plus, i wouldn't cheap out on parts for a turbo setup. last thing you want is something happening while you're way out over in shannonville.

weir 17-Jul-2008 03:10 PM

yeah, you get what you pay for when it comes to boost. $2k isn't going to be reliable for track time.

Nova_Dust 17-Jul-2008 09:00 PM

mm, back to the drawing board. See, this turbo business is driving me nuts.

chris_v2 17-Jul-2008 09:09 PM

i was going to boost my civic..

I priced everything out, it was going to cost me $3500-$4000 with all new parts except a partially used BOV and WG.

My bike cost me $5000.. and can whip around the track faster than any civic out there.. I'm happy with my decision.

lol, but seriously Charles.. if you want to boost, look to spend atleast $3500 if you want a reliable set-up.

honda1b6a 17-Jul-2008 10:52 PM

all is say is b20 on boost is intense,, its scaryy fast and torque is insane.. I have like no lag,, spins in almost any gear lol

if u live in hamilton i can take u for a rip soon as i solve my no start issuue lol

zeeman 18-Jul-2008 04:27 AM

ur car doesn't start now?....lol
Man, what do you do to your cars?...haha
Want me to come by a take a look one day sal?

LEITNER 18-Jul-2008 06:23 AM

sigh...if you want to go fast why are you driving a civic charles? you know i have nothing good to say about a turbo so i will keep my mouth shut. chris speaks the truth though, if you wanna real trip of speed get a crotch rocket and be done with it.

what did your car eventually make power wise?

chris, i can understand your bike being quicker in a straight line, but i'm sure there are more than a handful of civics that could embarrass you around a track.

Nova_Dust 18-Jul-2008 07:27 AM

Steve, the dyno numbers are 167/130.

Gallagher 18-Jul-2008 07:51 AM

sal is as good as a fisherman than he is a driver/mechanic.
