turbocharging a 2001 lx??
 

I've been looking into swaping a k20a2 into my car but it's looking pretty pricy for all the parts..... what I was wondering is should I just go with a turbo???? what does it cost??? and what companies make kits for a 2001 civic lx???? Any info would be apreciated Thanks

ok, my room mate from university bought a 02 Si Veloz and moved to the states... he contacted me and said he wanted to turbo it. I put together a list of parts (about $4000 USD of the best parts available) and he went and found a shop to do it all... the shop requested that some of the parts be exchanged for other parts... he agreed cuz after all they were doing the work. anyways (they downgraded my turbo choice, my fueling system, and some other smaller parts like i/c, hose clamps, etc...), about $14,000 USD later his car had 8 psi of boost on a stock block and he was blowing headgaskets... he had it all fixed (more $$$) and traded the car in for an 04 Si (SiR in Canada). Moral of the story... 1. know what you're getting into, 2. be able to do the work yourself, or be able to pay $$$$$$$, 3. don't expect a reliable car afterwards.

I didn't see a catalytic in your list. Are you sure those parts are for the non-VTEC engine? If so, what are you going to do about emissions?

i will be adding a high flow cat under the motor where the si has it

would I need to do anything else to my engine or just get that kit and rip???????

nice, ive been also looking for a Kit for my SIR.

i found REV-HARD pretty decently priced for 2700USD, and witht he conversion rate being very well thats like 3400CDN

also looking at a DRAG3 kit.

for the money and power, TURBO is the way to go.
just dont get BOOST HUNGRY!

That's a tiny turbo, are you sure it's even worth it??? I'd doubt that you'd make even 200whp.... those are 2nd generation talon turbo's. You're better off going T28, I had that in my talon, it was bigger than a 16g.... then again, I was able to run 16psi tuned daily without problems, on a civic you'd need to run LOW boost, espically if your motor is stock.

i had almost all of the parts necessary for a homemade kit and it didn't cost anything near $3400. All i was missing was oil/coolant lines, charge pipes and fuel managment and all i paid was about $600 in parts. You just gotta do research and look around you can peice a kit together for way cheaper. And like bbarbulo said know what you are gettin into and do the work yourself.

i want to turbo so bad b/c the power for money wise is nuts!

Peice together a turbo kit for $600 for the 7thgen civic that puts down at least 200whp 200ft/lbs of torque running low boost (8psi or less) without upgrading internals and I will buy it. Such an accomplishment has yet to be seen.

Also check ebay for turbo kits, you can get homemade kits for cheap.
As for 200 whp and 200 ft/lbs of torque from 8psi on stock internals.....on a D series....not likely. Ur gunna need some decent psi to get those numbers....and i wouldn't boost more than 12 psi on a stock D....and that would be with good engine management tuned to the tits.
But 8-9psi on a stock B-series would be about if not higher than 200 whp.

personaly i would rather buy a new kit that is bolt on instead of buying peices here and there. and interms of my car i really don't want to much boost i just want that extra bit of power there when i need it so 6psi will surfise for my needs.

no turbo kit is 100% bolt-on though...... your gonna have to custom fab something.

i know some fabing is required.
all mods that one does to there car require some kind of fab work.
but like i said a kit designed for the car would be a better desicion than a abused turbo found at the local reckers. yes u do get credit for finding the parts and doing a custom job but in reality i will spend a bit more money on a store bought kit.

you WILL spend WAY more money on a pre fabbed kit. You don't have to go buy a crappy junkyard turbo and intercooler, but i can guarantee you could buy all the parts you need brand new for cheaper than a name brand kit.
But you have a nice car, and it looks like you have already spent a lot of money on it and i am sure you can afford to buy a name brand kit.....so why not? Trust me after you get a taste of boost you will want more than just 8 psi, so make sure you buy a kit that will allow for more than low boost levels.
