Is Turbo worth it???
Hi...
I just got a 2000 EX. This is my first post, but after reading several previous messages, it seems like you guys are pretty knowledgeable. My question is this:
I have approximately $5000 to invest into this car. My focus at the moment is increasing performance (since I already bought woofers, a deck, and rims). I'm not too sure what the best route to take is...
Everyone I know says the same thing; get the AEM filter, a turbo, headers and exhaust. But what order do I get this stuff in, how much will it cost, and what kind of change in HP and 1/4 mile ratings can I expect? Currently, the engine is completely stock. Also, some people have mentioned to me that by changing the headers and exhaust I may screw up my ability to pass emissions testing, and at the same time, the car will be considerably noisier (is this true?)
Sadly, this is an automatic, but there's nothing I could do, the deal to buy the car was too good to pass up.
-Thanks
P.S. - Can I spend my money on other things to help increase my HP? I want to get the most out of this engine for the $5000-$6000 I can spare.

Turbo
give or take 170whp about 150 lbs of torque @ 6-8 psi
Pretty much on stock internals....anything higher your looking @ rods/pistons/retainers/ i'm hearing A/F management is key. Plz don't quote me on this, check out www.dseries.org if your staying w/ SOCH. If your not looking for crazy power.....it may be cheaper building up the D16.....
....personally leaning towards turbo setup 4400 spool
pppssshhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
In terms of relability....like every other mod you make....
1) Proper setup
2) Quality parts = $$$
3) If you learn the isht yourself......priceless!!
I think a guy on H-T w/ a SOCH doing 206whp 170lbs don't quite remember what the heck he was running tho.......but with that power comes tranny issues too.....lotta single cam haters out there...loook out!

The first thing I would do is work on the suspension, theres no point of having a fast car if it can't turn (unless you strictly do drag). Turbo will be your fast route for speed, but theres more to it than just slapping on a Trubo. If it was me I would rather go N/A and do a swap like a B16, B18, H22, or B20, you still gain power and its easier to mentain.

Buy a different car!
AND before you spend any money, decide what you want to build your car for?
Then ask questions.
how do you know what to do unless you decide what application you want it for.

LS+TURBO>$5000 Unless you know, don't say nothing.
The turbo I'm putting on my car has tallied up to $3500 at this point, and that's still just a projected price... that could still go up another $1000 pretty easily. Thats not including labour, I'm doing that myself. My buddy in the states with a 2002 Si Veloz just paid close to $10K for a turbo installed (he paid $5700 USD I think). Turbo's not cheap, but it's totally worth it.
