Turbo and Tranny Question..
WEll here is what i have planned for this season
Engine is a stock B18C GSR
Im turboing it this year, only thing is, i have a JDM Type R Tranny...
with LSD obivisouly, i have searched and heard rumours saying the boosting with a R-Tranny is not too good because of gearing?
would it be better if i switched to a longer gear ratio'd tranny like an LS, ?? and LSD on that?
opps not to leave out i m just shooting for around 250whp

Leave the tranny If you've alreay got it. You've already got LSD so you wo't have that much of a traction issue. If your running low boost its not going to matter too much. Longer gear's help you take advantage of the torque and help to not spin. As well as staying in gear longer under boost. But you'll accelerate MUCH faster with the R-Tranny. Id keep it. If you boost that pig you will have one FAST ****ing car, I must say.

okay, well im look to run a good 1/4mile... but suspension i know what i m doing if i plan to do something else...
but ya i basically live in a house where my dad, is a car fantatic, Drives white GTP, he is with the Grand Prix club and meets Wed, at Kennedy Commons, which i go down also sometimes but in my civic...
alot of competition between us.. lol. but i m looking to build something for half 1/4 half top end... i want to run a good 1/4 mile time i m just lookin to push low 13s... but also want to have a top end...
But the catch is i do not want to build internals on the car yet... i strictly do not have enough cash to do it properly, so want to go with a low boost application...
ps. thanks for all the input

You'll spank your dad with a Mere 6psi. GTP tranny's can't even run Low-13's without breaking. Hell you'd probably buck him without boost. Keep the R tranny. If your gear's are too long you could fall out of Vtec too easily.

I wish i could beat the GTP.. lol its not stock trust me... Ran last year a 13.2 at i think it was 105mph... this is before he got his built engine, intercooler, smaller s/c pulley...port and polish S/C as well... the shop is looking to run a high 11 low 12

ok, longer gears are NOT better for boost..all that bs about being in boost longer is just that...bs!
stick with the tranny you got. the shorterd gear tranny will accel faster.
id be a little worried about the itr lsd as they dont really like more then 200-220ish whp(and 170ish torque). but if you take it easy on it it should be ok.
stick with the itr tranny. and a super long 5th gear wont help with gasmileage in these cars. sorry it wont. there isnt enough torque downlow to move the car at that speed so youll need to push the gas more (less vac) which means more gas being used while cruising/passing someone.
good tuning is better for mileage then a longer 5th gear (or a 6th gear)

thats fine. be the slower car. youll have traction issues even with the longer gears. 98% of all high hp b series use itr/b16 trannies.
traction control isnt that widly used either.
dsm's/evo's / sti's. have shorter gearing then the b16/itr cars have.
main reason why other oem cars come with longer gears is...people arent into racing. they are oem cars meant to cruise , be reliable and get decent mileage and those cars which have bigger displacement have enough torque to move in the lower rev range...hondas and most other 4 bangers dont and benefit from the higher gearing for gas consumption. look at a fuel chart and you can see this easily.
but as you said its basically a none issue. he has a tranny already which he should use.

Turbo car's have fatter powerband's than N.A car's and to fully use that powerband the gear's will be spaced differently. But good points nontheless. And you are right, Most fast B's use ITR/B16 tranny's. Turbo or Not. Its beacuse there built for speed overall. Ive read alot about people's street set-up's and they seem to be quite satisfied with the LS gearing. Either way The dude's got the sickest tranny. Not worth selling. It is much better to help buck that damn chev anyway's!!!!lol. Good luck with that.
