turbo questions?

im thinking of doing an ls/vtech conversion and perhaps later on putting on a turbo and ive heard that running a turbo with low compression and high psi is better than running high compression with low psi? just wondering if there is any truth to this. so i was just wondering what would be the best route to go. if i should be putting lower compression pistons and what not. with all this in consideration i may not put a turbo on and high compression would give me better numbers (yes/no). tell me what you think

[discussion]N/A horsepower is usually limited by engine RPM and displacement.

turbo horsepower is limited ONLY in block strength which can be increased with sleeving the block and running forged internals.

therefore turbo hp > na hp

LS built block + turbo >>>> LS VTEC[/discussion]

low compression just makes it "safer" to run a turbo setup because it supposedly give you more of a margin of error compared to high compression.

Now if you have a high compression motor with a good tuner you can realize your power goals without turning the boost up so high.

I just recently saw a graph where they basically swapped from high compression to low-compression pistons in a turbo engine and there was no change in the lower end of the powerband like you would expect there to be.

if your for sure going turbo get some forged LS pistons and dont bother with doing an ls/vtec

with a high comp turbo setup you have to have your fuel and spark perfect cause with high compression your stuffing alot of air into the cylinder for it to compress and when you compress air it heats' up so pre ignition has a higher likely hood of happening that's why you can only run up to 12-12.5 :1 n/a compression on pump gas cause after that it will auto ignite the fuel while it's compressing it from the heat generated by compression of the air. And high comp and high boost is what you want in theory, I think you need to think more about what you want and most off how much $$ you have to spend.
