Turbo on a DX engine??

Has anyone done this? If so, was it worth it? If not, does anybody think it would be worth doing?

just dont go over board with how much boost you use... proper tuning allows the engine to take more boost also

Thanks, I wanted to go about another alternative to swapping engines. Doesn't need to be crazy fast, just want some more power than it has now.

Sure it's worth it, just make sure that you run proper fuel management, and don't boost it to much. You can put together a turbo kit for pretty cheap, run like 5-6psi. I have a few parts to if your interested. ie. injectors/turbo.

I guess I should make a list of things I would need for this project.

I've been collecting parts for the past 15-16 months. Now I'm just waiting to pull the car out of storage to start installing stuff.

Parts list:

turbo
blow off valve
wastegate
manifold
oil lines
coolant lines
injectors
fuel computer/FMU/standalone (pick one)
intercooler
intercooler piping
down pipe
turbo timer
gauges
exhaust/catalytic converter (since the stock cat is in the ex manifold which you won't be using anymore)

...that's a decent basic setup - anyone see something I forgot??

The only thing would be various connectors and fittings... but that is pretty much it.

...and dyno time.

At only 5 or 6 psi the stock ignition system will be fine, just run maybe a degree colder spark plug.

naw, the saturn is not going turbo. I have enough money in that thing as it is that car just gets love from now on - no more upgrades, only replacement parts as necessary. I have other projects on the go besides that.

as for when the turbo will be done, I had lost interest for a while, but kept buying parts. this is the year it's finally gonna happen. I'm very excited about it and continue to make forward progress! parts continue to come weekly still. that's gonna be one sick ride at the end of this summer - there will be no part of it left untouched (so far the engine is the only thing that has only had maintenance and no upgrades).

cocoman, I'll post on there the results of the ordeal.

BoostZex, you are correct, I overlooked the ignition in that list. MSD 6BTM box with all the MSD goodies and NGK copper plugs 1 heat range colder. That's also a major chunk of coin... when all's said and done, the ignition alone will run about $700.

I also consider upgrading the brakes again from the SiR setup to Wilwoods, or possibly a 5 lug setup.

Finally, maybe i'll even be able to meet you this summer along with my ride. My car should be done late summer/early fall. That thing will be amazing! Can't wait to see it, along with all the other rides. I'll be getting my G2(If thats the first licence) soon and my G1 in 251 more days(nov 17th) Until then, hope to see you around and hopefully see you drive by and hear the turbo spooling!
