turbo b20 8 psi>> clutches??

going to be boosting my b20 around 7-10psi, crx model. Recently started looking into clutches, gettin alot of mixed opinions:confused:

My choices are clutchmasters stage three(Fx300), act HD 6 puck sprung, act xtreme plate with the performance disc or a exedy stg 2( 3 puck). Some ppl sayin 6 pucks are really agressive, too much for b20 on boost??

If theres anybody on here running these types of cluthes your input would be great!!!

it would be nice if you told us how much tq you want to make.. or atleast your setup

7psi can give you 180whp or 280wtq. Huge difference..

Do you even understand what boost is?
to make it easy its a restriction value, or the INability for the motor to move the air from intake to exhaust. your raming air into the motor and it cant move it out fast enough. If you can move more air and run a lower psi your laughing. That is why 2 setups can make completly diff #'s per/lb or any random boost level.
stock head/cams/cam timing vs a built head will gain double digits in hp/tq no problem and run a lower psi level and be easier on the entire setup.

SO NO MORE BOOST GOALS!!! plain and simple its stupid

set hp/tq goals and people will be able to help

as well clutches arent rated in boost there rated in TQ

my setup consists of:

B20b
Y1 tranny
lightened flywheel
turbonetics .48 ar
weirtech mani
7-10 psi

Guessing ill be making around 220-250tq, i dunno hard to say, maybe 300hp. Car is going to be daily driven hard and sometimes tracked. Would a puck type clutch be over kill for this setup??

turbonetics .48 ar
Nice
Figure out what you want first.
220 or 300
FUK PSI!

lol do u guys read the post fully b4 respounding, not trying to be a as$ but i clearly said how much torque i would be making and then asked if a 6 puck disc would be over kill for that much tq

brianmcgaugh 20-Sep-2007 11:52 PM

Well decide on what you want to make and buy the clutch rated for your goals.
And most likely a puck clutch yes. 6, 4... depends on the manufacture and if you want a clutch that will be bigger than your application.

been doing alot of reading and searching, pretty much set on a 6 puck just incase i decide on going for more pwr in the future. Will update u guys when im done all the fun installs i have ahead of me lol

Check out Bully Clutches, they are made in canada.
I have a stage 1 for a d16z6 and it holds the 200-220wtq no problem and the beauty of it is its still very streetable.

We run an unorthodox racing full kevlar unsprung race clutch in our MR2 and it works great. You can really dump it and she holds strong or you can pull away nicely with no jerking. Quite impressive.

I'm going to be runing the same one in my civic when the factory unit finally dies.

Good luck with your search.

have fun running a 6 puck daily driving dummy. happy launching from light to light.

brianmcgaugh 24-Sep-2007 11:28 AM

I ran a 6 puck daily, and was fine

I ran a eurodrive (missisauga) dual diaphram pressure plate with an unsprung disk. Held 455whp and 8000 rpm launches for. When i pulled the motor for the last time the clutch still had life left on it (25k on it). Id never use anything else. If anything the eurodrive holds too much. I had to run a prelude master cylinder because civic and integra units would blow out after 5000km.
