Tune Up

How much does a Honda dealer usually cost for a tune up?

I'd love to do it myself but I do not know how
I mean there are a lot of things that go into this, such as flushing all fluids and changing the fuel filter and such

I already changed my spark plugs about a month ago...
but the car is nearing 100KM and I think it is time for a tune up

AS WELL.....a rep at READY HONDA said that the timing belt + water pump do not need to be changed on my car (1999 si) b/c they are engineered to last longer....168 000 to be exact...

but i think i'll change em next summer or something

anyone recommend a place to do a tune up?

I had a full tune-up done at a Honda dealer when my car hit 100,000k's and they charged me just under $500 for plugs, wires, dist. cap/rotor, fuel filter and PVC valve. All of your fluids you can get changed for around $150, but that's a huge waste because you can easily do it yourself.

I'd suggest becoming a paid member buying all the parts you need from Parkway Honda and contacting one of the Club's Affiliates for pricing on the install.

Well, I've never actually changed all the fluids myself. But, if you bought everything you needed, most mechanics would probably charge you half of what Honda charges. When you get your tune-up, get it done then. I do believe Buddah offers these basic services. Try pm'ing him.

Engine oil obviously, transmission fluid and if it hasn't already been done, flush and fill the coolant system.

Your lucky no one has ripped you to shreads on that last post yet...

Just because your car has a manual transmisson does NOT mean it doesn't have any fluid. If it hasn't been changed, it might be a good time to do it.

My suggestion to you is read your owners manual, it should show you the suggested service intervals for each area of your car. If you don't have an owners manual, I suggest you look at a service manual for it (HELMS is good)

Best of luck.

woah woah
maybe the wording was off

what i meant was TRANSMISSION FLUID (as in ATF) is what i thought u meant
sorry for being so vague

b/c i already referred to the CLUTCH fluid in the my earlier post...and that is where the confusion came in when you said change ur tranny fluid

LOL no the clutch fliud is standard brake fliud ... the Transmission has a manual transmission fliud in it keeps all the gears coated in a oily substance and reduces wear... there is transmission fluid regardless of type of transmission and according to Honda is 24,000 km between changes so every 4 oil changes.,...

Ok I may be confused but just to be clear for blksi99!

Manual Transmissions have MTF ( Manual Transmission Fluid)
Automatic transmission have ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid)

In a Manual tranny, the clutch requires CLUTCH FLUID to operate the clutch. Just like the braking system. Same fluid too. DOT 3!

*edit.. nm ^^^ he explained it!

lol
this post has turned to more of a class for me

anyway my question is...i'll be replacing the MTF, the clutch and brake fluid, as well as the fuel filter

is that sufficient?

You could change your coolent too, but if it's still nice and lime green coloured, it's probably still ok.

Hey as long as your learning it's all good...

change the following...

engine oil
spark plugs
spark plug wires
cap and rotor
coolant
tranny fliud
oil filter
fuel filter
brake fliud (do a complete flush)
clutch fliud (yes it's brake fliud but it's a separate system)
top up your windshield washer fiuld
and you should be good to go
