Trying to start after sitting for 2 years
I have a 1990 crx si. I bought it from someone that had it sitting for about 2 years. I tried to turn it over the other day and all I got was clicking. None of the headlights or marker lights are connected...would that make a difference? Dash lights come on, but thats about it.
If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. |
Generally that means you don't have enough battery power to get the starter spinning. You need to boost it or get a new battery. Even if the dash lights are coming on, under load the battery doesn't provide enough voltage to get the starter spinning.
I thought you were coming to get the bumpers today? |
batterys dead as a doornail
|
im gonna try boosting it tomorrow and see what happens....I hope thats all it is...the guy that sold me the battery said it was fine, but then again it sat unused for about 6 months, I guess that could do it. Also, if someone knows the sequence of the wires going into the distributor cap that would help alot...usually there is makings with 1-4, but there is nothing on the cap.

I'm 90% sure it is the battery, sitting for 6 months will gain a little bit of draw from the battery hooked onto the car. Make sure when u try to boost it, try use the car ground and not the battery ground because a battery that is like completely dead will not be good if u just boost it up rite away. I heard it could blow up or something. If it's not that it could probably be your starter, but i'm 90% sure go for the battery first. Leave the distributor alone for now.

do an oil change
edit: the oil change isnt your problem, its that the battery is dead, but also do an oil change on that car |
Firing sequence is 1 - 3 - 4 - 2
Distributor rotates clockwise. #1 cylinder is closest to the driver side (Timing belt). If your looking at the dritributor from the front, the #1 cyl is the top right plug. Should have a C ingraved next to it, or perhaps some other marking depending on the dizzy. |
There is one with a C, but it is in not in the position that you mentioned. It is, when on the dizzy, at the bottom left. That is if you are facing the dizzy standing at the passenger fender facing the dizzy.
I for sure have it wrong. Thanks for the help. |
put some fresh gas inside it as well, gas will go bad overtime and water from condinsation of the inner gas tank walls will be inside. good old hose and bottle take the sh!t out.

ok let's make sure you looking at it the same way that I am.. Because technically if you're looking the opposite way, top right is bottom left.
Imagine the dizzy in your hand held upright with the square side on the bottom look at the CAP side. The C should be top right now. If not just hook it up at the C as cylinder 1 and go clock wise, 1 - 3 - 4 - 2 ... Just so you know it's same **** for all 4 cyl hondas. |
