Tranny problem? grinding?
Hey guys,
Have a problem which I think is related and caused by the transmission.
BTW: JDM D15B VTEC. Was their an LSD automatic tranny originally for this?
Okay here is my story/situation.
Have a 1993 Honda Civic DX HB. Old engine was D15B7, swapped out a year ago for a JDM D15B VTEC. This is an automatic BTW. The old DX automatic tranny was used and bolted on to this JDM engine.
Now this has been happening for a while, probably ever since the swap, has gotten worse maybe. Seems like its worse a few days, then less others. After 2nd gear I believe all the way to 3rd, the transmission grinds (a term I just learned a few hours ago). Anyways it starts to shake and vibrate kind of violently and while that is happening the car loses power. I have to give it more gas to speed it up and stop the grinding.
Basically its pissing me off and is getting more violent as the days go on.
Now...I heard that its most likely because I dont have the correct tranny bolted on to the motor.
----------------------
Which automatic tranny should I look for? I have to idea which tranny bolted on to the D15B VTEC originally. I know that it has LSD though. Was it an LSD automatic? I am at a lose here.
Any help would be appreciated. I just want to end the torture.
THANKS friends.
ALSO....
No CEL's, no unusual problems (minus the vibration/hesitation I call grinding). The motor is fine though, Im sure of that. Was clean as a whistle when bought.
The ECU was chipped and dumped with P08 ignition and fuel values.
Just bought and installed a new O2 sensor and Fuel filter and replaced it a few days ago and replaced the dizzy a while ago. The only thing I need to do now is the change out the timing belt/tensioner/and waterpump to see if it will help.
My uncle suggests I go to Mr. Transmission here in Canada and see if they can potentially find/see the issue. He thinks its tranny related. I read in the archives here and another guy had a similar issue but on a EF. Was looking for a S20 tranny.

All D series trannys bolt onto d series engines.
If the tranny bolted on properly then it's just a tranny issue, not that you have the wrong tranny. Essentially all the engine is doing is transfering power from the flywheel to the tranny. Rest is up to the tranny.

Sounds like clutch chatter to me. Did you resurface the flywheel and use a new clutch when doing the swap?

Ok Mr Transmission charges prices that don't warrant the quality of work, in ANY sense.
You are better off going to a JDM used parts shop and just have them install it. Honestly, you should not be charged more than $200-$250 for a used JDM D series automatic tranny (Just purchase). And, you should not be charged more than like $300 for the install. I used to do full engine installs for $300.
As for what transfering 127HP, yeah, it's called a ****ed transmission. Things break... Doesn't matter if it's 800HP or 10hp.
Go on honda-tech and pose the question. Will all D series tranny connect to all D series engines?
