Tranny Fluid
I have searched the forum numerous times and I see that alot of people recommend the synchromesh stuff. Im planning to change my fluid today but I want to use some Mobil1 stuff. Would that be ok? Anyone else use Mobil1 oil with there tranny without problems?

well, i don't know if mobil 1 makes tranny fluid, but ii tried another 10w30 synthetic in there (REdline synthetic - pretty expensive) for a week or so and i eventually needed to change it back... it was temporary because partsource was the only thing open and i needed tranny fluid...
i have been using synchromesh for about 2-3 months now on my s80 gsr LSD and its awesome... i bough the GM synchromesh friction modified and it smoothed out some out my shifts like you wouldn't believe... it actually gets better the longer itis ini there... i think i may switch back to oem for winter because i don't know how well it will hold up in the cold... but get the synchromesh and nothing else...

funny enough man, it was recommended to me from the high-performance mechanic from the acura erin mills dealership. He works on the NSXs and etc. He uses it in his type-r for the track and will never use anything else...
ideally, people use it to attempt to refurbish their transmission if it has any wear on it/stiffness/grinds and etc and it usually does the trick... but people also use it for track purposes because according to the guy, its particles can dissipate heat better than Honda OEM or something so it is more efficient and doesn't heat up as much and is still able to perform the same under the hardest of driving. I believe they use it in corvette transmissions as well.
So, if you drive your car hard... but, ultimately its up to you.

if Mobil1 you refer to is engine oil, then no, don't use synthetic engine oil. you can temporarily use petroleum based oil, as recommended in the owner's manual. but you really should use Honda MTF if you use the car normally, or GM Synchromesh if you beat it.

I use synchromesh. I noticed that if I let the car warm up a little longer now (since it is cold in the morning), the tranny shifts a ted better, and smoother.
It could be just me. Butt dyno vs. butt shifting :P

synchromesh question
ok, first is synchromesh an additive or a MTF repalcement? im kinda confused... i checked boogle about synchromesh and it came up with GM synchromesh and penzoil synchromesh, which is better?
also if i have standard HMTF in my car, would adding synchromesh ontop of the HMTF justify my shifting by making it better?
also where can i get the stuff!
regards

synchromesh is made by GM and is the GM Synchromesh you have found on google. It isn't an add on though, it is a replacement or an alternate fluid to use. Just grab synchromesh from any GM dealer. I live in mississauga so i went to the dealer on dundas st just west of hurontario...
If you drive hard and/or your shifting is a little rough, grab GM synchromesh "Friction Modified"... it has friction additives that will help way more than just the regular stuff. It isn't as available and most dealerships will give you the regular stuff and say it doesn't exist... but it does. I have a few bottles of it and its roughly 14.95 a bottle or something.

Use whatever you like. I just don't want people to feel that buying better OEM alternative products is necessarity more expensive.
