tranny fill plug....

i'm checking the tranny level in my car but i wanna know if i'm trying to open the right one... so here it goes...

-i took the wheel off and jacked it up a bit...

-there's this socket hole that you can see (right behind the wheel) and i'm assuming that this is the fill plug.

- down from the fill plug a couple inches, to the left and of course behind the fill plug is the drain plug

- both look like socket holes...but the fill plug looks bigger than the drain plug

am i seeing the picture right here???

the thing is, if i got the fill plug correct, the boltis a bitch to take off.. waht can i do to make this easier???

problem... when i was looking for the fill plug i notice a leak.. it has to be from the tranny cause my engine oil is fine...but i still couldn't check the level cause i can't ge the fill plug open.
can i try a sealer to use in my manual tranny and see if it works or is it a bigger problem than this??

The manual trans check/fill plug is located half way up the side... drain plug is on the same side, below near the bottom. The check/fill plug should be a 3/8 drive ratchet to remove and the drain plug should be a 17mm socket. In order to loosen either plug, pound the ratchet handle with the heel of your palm to 'crack' the seal. If that doesn't work, use a steel pipe or closed end of a large wrench over the handle of the ratchet and push it towards the front of the car.

Common 'leaks' that it could be are distributor seal, oil pan gasket, transmission axle seal or 9 times out of 10 it's just old oil from previous oil filter changes. When the filter is removed, oil runs on to the top of the oil pan and runs along the seam. If it is an actual leak, it's possible that it's not severe enough to effect your engine oil level.

BTW, make sure that you remove the check/fill plug first. If you remove the drain plug prior to the fill, you might not be able to remove the fill and therefore not be able to fill it up again. Also, when you remove the check/fill plug, stick your 'pinky' finger in the hole and feel for the trans oil level (if it doesn't start running out when you remove the plug). The oil should be level with the bottom of the hole. If you can't feel any oil at all, then your trans oil level is low... and your leak is likely the axle seal. If the level's full, then the leak that you've detected is most likely not from your transmission.

ok, i jsut removed the fill plug.. once i did , i expected a decent size hole there so i can somehow fill in the tranny fluid. To my surprise, there's like no room in there!! i see this round like thing although i cna only see a couple cm of it, i can move it left right a bit.... some tranny fluid came out.... but i figured it should be gushing out if my level is full... not sure now.... it was a hole where i put the ratchet in.. opened it and now don't know what to do.. i did this a year ago but i opened something else it had to opened wiht a wrench... i filled it in... this bolt was not right behind the wheel(it was to the left and up more of the hole where hte ratchet goes in) but it still did work.. anyways, someone tell me if i'm going hte rigth way here???

thanks

there are two holes, one is a fill plug, the other is a drain plug. Drain is right at the bottom of the case.
