tranny/block question

anyone know if an Si tranny bolts up to a dx block?
Will this combination work?
This is coming from a 4th gen civic motor.
thanx

imported_gohondago 31-Oct-2002 02:59 AM

i asked a while agao and everyone told me yes, i havent tried it yet though

KS-R 31-Oct-2002 12:34 PM

Yes, they'll bolt up!!! Even a 4th gen tranny or block will bolt up together with a 5th gen tranny or block... even 6th gen... and 7th gen...

thanx guys, do u also know by looking at the tranny if it's a dx or si tranny. Any way i can tell b/c im trying to figure out exactley what tranny i have right now, when i got the car it came with a dx block and and Si head and im trying to figure out now if im shifting in a Dx or Si tranny b/c im trying to pin point the reasons why i did so bad quarter mile. Thanx again :D

SilverCRXSi 31-Oct-2002 06:18 PM

I remember somone asking that on one of the boards and I think they said the only way to check was by tearing the tranny apart, but i'm not 100% sure on that one.
If you are using the DX tranny that would probably explain your times.(I think? )

imported_My Blue Si 31-Oct-2002 08:08 PM

exactley, but damn taking it apart it's not really a quick job. Damn im still clueless in what i've got b/c the previous guy that had my car could have put both the tranny and block from a dx on the Si head b/c maybe the other head blew, or he could have just fucked up the Si block when it was stock in the car and maybe he/she never had enough cash for a si block so they put a dx block. Im just confused and the previous owner of the car was a pure crackhead. He never knew anything about it, when i went to go look at it the first words he said was here's the shitbox. He never knew a thing about it and it's a long story on how he got the car. Oh well i guess i'll just drive with an unknown tranny.

Thanx for the help guys:thumbup:

whats your top speed in 1st gear, 2nd gear and 3rd?

edit: have a loot at this page, alot of transmission codes

redfox 01-Nov-2002 02:42 PM

easiest way to tell is by comparing the speed at redline in second gear. I'm pretty sure the DX and Si fiirst gear ratio is the same. So drive it in second gear to redline, read the speed and compare it to someone with an SI.

KS-R 01-Nov-2002 10:55 PM

Yeah, what redfox said would be the closest/easiest way to tell.

I believe the DX can go up to about 120 in 2nd... and SI can only go up to about 90...

Or if you dare... find out your top speed.. The higher one would be the DX. That's about 200 or so. :naughty:

SilverCRXSi 02-Nov-2002 12:07 AM

Top speed on a CRX Si is about 200kph as well...
I know redline in 3rd is about 120kph(says in owners manual) so I imagine it'd be the same for a Civic since the 2 cars are identical engine wise(back in the day!)

imported_My Blue Si 02-Nov-2002 04:33 PM

ok im going to try this second gear thing b/c i don't think im going to take the chance with the top speed thing. Just one question, my Si ecu goes up to 6500 rpm and my Integra ecu (which is in my car now) redlines at 7500 rpm with greater fuel and timing, so won't my car go quicker than it usually is supposed to go or should i just check my speed when it hits 6500 rpm? thanx for the replies

SilverCRXSi 04-Nov-2002 09:49 PM

Check your speed at 6500 RPM.
I know for the CRX Si ECU rev limit is at 7200RPM.
Not sure about the 'teg ECU.
I thought the 'teg ECU had a 7800RPM rev limit?

Ok I have the owners manual, hope this helps:
1st Gear in DX: 56kph, Si:49kph
2nd Gear in DX: 97kph, Si:84kph
3rd in DX: 146, Si: 127kph

Good luck!
