Toyo Proxes FZ4

any idea if this tire would be alright for winter? I am thinking I might just go all season high perforance instead of buying winter tires cause my summer tires on my car are good on dry pavement and wet pavement, but the second u throw some gravel in the mix or some dirt on the road, they suck like ****. so, any ideas? I am also looking at Toyo Proxes 4 as they are rated as an all-season tire as well. All-Season should be that I will get satisfactory performance out of one of these tires even in the winter? I am thinking the Toyo Proxes 4 as they have a traction rating of AA and I used to have Kumho 711s and they had a traction rating of AA, Temp rating of A and a treadwear of 300... they were some of the gripiest tires i have ever owned and durable as hell... I bought some fuzion zri summers and they have a traction rating of A and i immediately noticed a difference in tractions... is this a noticeable difference to others or have i been on something weird lately? Thanks.

here's the links to the tires, let me know what u think of my idea... Thanks...

They seems like pretty decent tires. Thanks.

ur better off buying winter tires than using these performance all-season tires imo...winter tires will really help u a lot in the snow than all-season

FZ4 in winter....hell no. read a reply i posted in one of your other tire threads, you don't need all these threads on the same subject though.

oh and toyo proxes 4 are crap in winter, I've used them in early march and it snowed...junk in winter. they are not a winter tire, they are not even a long wearing all-season, they are a summer that can handle some rain well, dirt, dry and still be ZR rated.

just ask it all in one thread man

imported_mikepasini 20-Nov-2005 07:34 PM

i find it more effective to have seperate threads cause this way each individual question is addressed... call it greedy? sure it is... hahaha, i am a greedy person... hahahaha...

all jokes aside, thanks for the input cause i was gonna buy those toyo proxes 4s tomorrow... not anymore... in your experience, whats a good all season that will give me wicked perforance in the summer for dry/rain and pretty good in dirt when itts on the road... but also keep me safe for driving in the winter... thanks...

wicked dry + winter do not go together. Dry uses a soft compound and the tread is designed for cornering loads but with rain ability, where as winter is soft with soft tread directional usually, which grips snow and ice.

if your absolutely set on getting only 1 tire for all year, then I guess the Proxes 4 would fit the bill, but it will not provide good winter performance or grip and on ice, you might as well be driving slicks.

i'd go with even cheap motomaster winters or used winters and then for summer you have soo many options. Yokohama ES100, Toyo Proxes 4, Toyo T1-R, Falken Zeix512 (all season as well by the way, but same as Toyo, not really an all-season tire)

spend $300-$400 for cheap winters on steelies and then in summer spend the $500-$600 on quality summers.

if your set on 1 though, the Proxes 4 is a good choice, but if we get alot of snow or its slippery out, take the TTC cause your civic won't be goin nowhere safe.

also for winter you want 185 width tire, but for summer you want 205 so more rubber is on the road...it really is a different tire for summer vs winter. different tread, different compound, different width you want

i work at a tire shop and toyo all seasons and their winter tires are not the greatest .
if you want a good tire for a good price, get the vikings. its a off-brand but at a good price and they perform well. thats what i put on.

I break loose with a little rain on the road

thats how bad they are :D

imported_mikepasini 09-Dec-2005 09:16 AM

u saying the proxes 4 suck in rain?

imported_loudsubz 09-Dec-2005 03:21 PM

yes

imported_mikepasini 09-Dec-2005 10:00 PM

****, i thought they would be alright... i guess they don't look like they have much of a rain tread.. that makes sense.

For all season, my recommendation is Pirelli P3000 Cinturato. If you read the reviews on www.1010tires.com, you will see some ppl say that it performns like a winter tire. Long and absolutely even treadwear and i share all those opinions.

I have had them for about 17000 KMs now and still lots and lots of tread left. I dont plan on replacing them winter tires this year (not trying to negate the value of winter tires...i was on a budget this year so couldnt get them). Today it snowed like hell in the morning but i didnt had any problem whatsoever.

I do plan on replacing them with Pirelli PZero Nero next summer though. FYI..i paid $475 all in..installed.
