tornado gas saving thingy????
Hey Guys and Gals,
hafve you all heard about this new device on infomercials called the tornado which goes right into your intake pipe .... wonder if its lagit ???

in my opinion, it is legit but only half...
in theory, I would think it would help you save gas because you stick something inside the intake pipe to obstruct air flow...but doing this, less air is sent through the intake manifold into the combustion chambers...less air..computer computers..less gas to inject...therefore saving your gas.....that's the legit part....in theory of course....in theory....
but on the other side, the tornado action...what this does is make the air swirl around more so that the air/fuel mixture is better when it flows into the combustion chambers so allowing that fuel mixture to combust more completely...ordinarily this would give you more power, but because of the first part of this theory is saving your gas by not allowing in more air....not that much air means not that much fuel...not that much fuel means no power increase.....
isn't this interesting....
because typically, the more air you have..the more fuel there will be..the more fuel...the bigger the combustion reaction....the more power .....that's why we have air intake systems, bigger throttle bodies, larger ports of the intake manifold.....
i dont know...what do you guys think?

good question going here.. I also saw that infomercial on TV and didn't know what to believe.. saves gas plus increases HP!?!
Am I being too gullible because I came close to ordering it and trying it out? But since the infomercials are on so late at night, I fell asleep.. LOL

this should actually work great on carbed motors where the fuel is dumped into the intake manifold. on most newer cars the fuel is injected right b4 the head or into the cylinder(direct injection). on a b18a/b, b20b/z the swirling effect would be less by the time the air reaches the fuel after the intake manifold. plus what if a piece of cheap plastic breaks off? but i may be wrong

very interesting ... thanks for your inupt guys ....
i want to order it ... but it seems like a risk for what ever they're selling it for ... i don't know how much it costs .... lol hey marc ! you get it .... and tell us how it is .... you seem to like to experiment with things .... lol

They are made of aluminum, not plastic. I asked this question here a whilel ago. I don't really think it will do much. Like they make them for cars even with CAI and shortrams, but if you get a filter with an open top, and allready twists and sends the air in that motion, isn't it doing the same thing?

Makes your car sound like a Turbo..... (Swooshing sounds)...
Stupid IMO..
Nothing worth $70 gonna increase anything.... and if there is an increase, well, you will most likely not notice it.. IMO 1-5 HP is nothing, especially if it doesn't improve Low end Torque... And it's all about Low End Head Ripping Torque....
I think someone has one of these. Some guy with the Honda Civic (2001 Gen)

On hondas, the pistons are designed to make the air swirl while being compressed. It may work on pushrod cars, but is pointless for imports. Jap engines run so efficiently because the A/F mixture is ratioed and mixed well.
I know a few people in the states who bought it for fun as well as those plastic electric turbos. No power gain shown on the dyno for the tornado. For the electric turbos, bottom end is slightly better but top end is worse because the electric turbo is not able to deliver enough air.

while on the topic of products from infomercials....
does anyone think you could actually run your engine with zero oil if you put that duralube stuff in it???
they had one guy who "raced cars" and ran like 10 laps in an amatuer stock car thing with zero oil.... he was astounded that it actually worked..... i'm tempted to try it out on my old motor before a swap just to see

Well don't laugh guys, but I actually had one for my Dodge Colt back in 93!!! and I can tell you the thing works, but not for every car. I actually had a bigger increase in performance than when I install the shortram and exhaust combined!!! After trying it my friend got one for his Subaru Legacy Turbo, his also saw increase in performance, but not as much as me. Next another friend got it for his Integra, he didn't see any gains at all, another one got it for his MX6 and saw very little gain. So the thing works, just not for all cars.
