removal of the cv axle.. cutting the old clips off, taking the boot off.. cleaning all the grease out (varsol tank, brake clean, blow nozzle)

Re-packing it with the grease provided, new boot clips. YOu need a special set of cv clip pliers though

it can be done without the pliers

cv boot jobs are the biggest waste of time and money...a shaft replacement is almost the same price, its pretty much the same labour and even more frustration...spend a couple extra bucks and throw a new shaft on

have fun replacing the boot.
I'd rather replace the whole axle, much much easier. I'm not a fan of replacing the boots. I'd rather just spend the little extra money ($140 for an axle?!?!?!, i don't know where your getting them but ur getting ripped off), then mess around with the grease and trying to pull the boot into place (not fun).

Get the cheapest rebuild you can find. They usually have at least a 1 year warranty.
Parts source (mildly priced) rebuilds usually have a lifetime warranty.

I try to change my cv boot yesterday. I got the outer half shaft out and couldn't put it back in. The clip is like messed up. So i ended up buying a new axle. I took a couple hours messing around with the cv boot too. U get grease like all over the place when u change the cv boot. I recommend u changing the whole shaft unless u have the right tools and know what u are doing.
