Too much engine oil!

Hey guys and gals,

I was wondering what are the effects of too much engine oil? How bad can it get? The reason I'm asking is because the **** nuts that did my oil change put WAY too much oil in and I drove around with that much oil for around 2100kms before discovering a leak. The oil level is about 1.5 cm higher than the max level hole on the dip stick. I was trusting that they knew what the **** they were doing, I guess they didn't know ****. Now I'm experiencing a leak somewhere... I don't know where its coming from. All I know is that I never EVER had a leak before and now I do... this is really pissing me off. Please help.

how do you know you are experiencing a leak? are you dripping it or burning it?

Some effects you may see is that you are burning too much oil than you should be...or, too much oil leads to too much pressure so that your valve cover gasket could leak...not serious tho...but, should be dealt with asap.

It also depends on the Car you drive...need more info to help ya.

Hollllly ****, 1.5 cm above the full mark is real bad. It can damage your cat too if you are burning mad oil... other than that... I can't think of anything, but that's a LOT of extra oil

drain it and put new stuff in ... I wouldn't be surprised if a gasket or 2 are leaking now and have to be replaced.....

I know its leaking now because I can see oil on my drive way... I have a D16Z6 motor. When I wipe it from the drive way its not a redish color so I don't think its the tranny fluid. Its not leaking from the top because the top is dry and I just put a new valve cover gasket in.

I took it back to the shop that did my oil change and I complained... they told me that the guy that did my oil change was known to put way too much oil into cars. The mechanic checked and found that there was a leak coming from the tranny hose going into the rad (I also had my rad changed last 2 weeks ago) and it was red fluid coming out. I saw the little drip with my own eyes. He said that the reason why it was all over the bottom of my motor / tranny is because the fluid leaked from the rad to the bottom plastic piece and when I drove the car, the air flow carried / flung it over to the bottom of the engine / tranny? That's the first time I've heard of such thing. Can anyone verify this? He also said that it could be that the person who installed the rad never put teflon on the inside of the hose that's why it was leaking. Either way I'm gonna clean the bottom mess out and try to get the hose fixed or tighten then wait and see if anything is still leaking.

well if the mechanic is known to put too much oil in ...and they haven't let the guy go it's safe to assume you shouldn't go there anymore....

also what he's told you is possible ...happen when I had a driveshaft seal leak the tranny oil looked like it was dripping froma different spot.... anyways best thing to do is wipe everything dry then place a big white piece of cardboard under the car and put a brick on each corner to hold it down over night in the morning look at the card ... let the card dry and take to the dude and show them the engine oil since when you drive the rad stuff will most likely flow in the same path again ... and get them to fix it properly this time....

alright, I'm confused...are you saying it's motor oil or tranny fluid that leaking??? Or coolant?....cause if it's oil, the tranny hose from the rad doesn't carry oil...are we talking about red, brown, or green fluid???

At first I was talking about engine oil. But now it seems like the red stuff (tranny fluid)... its leaking from the hose going into the rad.

so, it has nothing to do with too much oil then...now, my question is, which hose is this that leads into the rad from the tranny...I can understand if it's coolant...but, tranny fluid I'm not too sure about...

UPDATE: My dad and I worked on it. It was the ATF hose going out of the rad that was leaking. We put some Teflon stuff to seal it and now I'm just waiting for it to cure to see if it works... hopefuly this is the last I will see of any leaks for a while. I like to see no fluids on my drive way
