Tokico HP Performance Shocks/Springs Suspension Kit
 

Hey,
Just wondering if anyone has the Tokico HP Performance Shocks/Springs Suspension Kit?

I saw the kit on sale for $560 on the group buy forum. Very decent price for shocks and springs. But how is the ride quality and the drop (average 1.75")?

Anyone know?

i have the Tokico Advanced handling kit on my 95 coupe. Its tokico springs (1.7" drop) and illumina's, which are better than the HP's and 5-way adjustable.
Also, with this kit the front sat slightly higher than the back, but as soon as i swapped a b16 in there it evened out nicely.

I highly recommend this cup kit. The ride quality is near stock, but the handling was increased greatly. Add a larger front sway bar and just get a rear sway bar (if not equipped from the factory) and you will have a pretty decent corner-carving machine.

i would imagine the ride quality would be a little worse with the HP's and handling wouldn't be as good as with the illumina's. But i don't know what the spring rates are for those springs. My bro had HPs and i thought that they were garbage, especially compared to illumina's.
With suspension you get what you pay for, so don't cheap out.

If you're on a budget or don't really need fully adjustable shocks, I'd go with Koni Red shocks. They are manually adjustable before being installed and the rears have 2 perch settings to adjust the height slightly. They are only around $400 and a million times better then Tokico HP or KYB GR2 shocks. Koni quality and reliablity can't be beat. You can pick up a new set of springs (H&R, Eibach, Tein) for $250 or even a used set for $150 and you're set.

I have the Koni Reds with H&R Sports on my car and I have no complaints except that they are a pain in the a$$ to adjust. I have a tool that makes it easier, but sometimes I wish I could just turn a knob like the Yellows.

Yeah my friend has the reds, he likes them alot but you havta turn them to adjust.

What tool do you use to adjust them?

I could get the H&Rs, Eibachs are like $400.

It's a T-shaped big allen key type thing. The HP and GR2 shocks aren't adjustable at all. Who told you they were $400? Through out affiliates, you can get any spring for under $300. Lots and lots of people have the H&R's on TCC. Personally I wouldn't buy anything else.

Also, I was told that with the H&R race springs you dont need a camber kit but with H&R sports you do.

Anyone know if this is true?

I'd say the Reds if you don't want to spend $700-$800 on Illuminas or Koni Yellows. Thye are way better then anything else in that price range.

H&R Race would need the camber kit. They lower 2.75"f/2.5"r and are alot stiffer then the Sports. My car has no camber problems and rides and handles perfect for me.

Oh crap, I meant race springs 1.75"f/1.5"r with no camber kit not sports. For sure u'll need a camber kit for sports. What about the race springs?

i'm dropped about 1.7" with the tokico cup kit and my alignment was within honda specification.

What are the honda specifications? In fact, what's the factory camber setting? -1?

nope, no camber kit.
Alignment specifications are between a range of numbers depending on the application....like camber would be from -1 to +.75...(may not be the actual spec)...know what i mean? Its not like its a certain number and it has to be dead on.

Wow with a 1.7" drop, all your settings for front and rear all within +0.75 to -1?

My friend dropped his car approx. 1.9" and was around -2.5 in the rear!

I had HPs last summer. H&R Race and Tokico HPs. (check pic in my signiture)

Handled like a jet fighter! lol! Ride quality was very decent too. However, with Race springs, I had around 2.25" drop, which made it impossible to do alignment, and camber wear was horrible!

I'm looking for Sport springs and most probably another set of HPs this summer.

Adjustability however, is a whole new game, that could have you entertained for a long time! :thumbup:

So I give the HPs the thumbup. I was very satisfied for the money I spent for them.

Faraz, with 2.25" drop, you didnt have a camber kit installed?

i have the HP kit, i feel the springs are not stiff enough, good for daily driving with a mild drop. no problems for winter, and i dont have to worry so much about potholes/speed bumps etc. overall im pretty happy

Is your rear end higher than the front?

so reds would be the best bet im guessing? better than the agx?

i'd say illumina's, AGX then reds in that order. H&R sports are 1.75/1.5 and depending on your offset you need a camber kit. i have the sports and my camber is off.
