Tires too big

Tires too big
Hello,
I decided to pick up some new tires for my old 15" rims and put the motomasters away for a few weeks. I put 195/55/R15 tires on, and they just seem big. I compared to the old 13" and these new tires are at between 1-2" 'higher'. This fills out the wheelwell really nice (car is not lowered), but i'm a little concerned. When i corner hard (autocross), i don't want to rub the body on the tires. If i fast-forward my suspension upgrade, will this solve the problem, or did i screw myself with the 55' size tire (i had 195/50 on this rim before).
Second question is about spacers. I didn't realize this when buying the tires, but the rims are actually not fitting as they did 5 years ago when i used them last. It seems the replacement front calipers are just big enough to not work with the rims. I had the guys at tires23 put a universal spacer on the front wheels, which seems to work. Only problem is the tire is now flush or just past the fender.
With my first problem/question, and the spacers on the front, i'm kinda nervous about destroying the tires at the next autocross event. Suggestions would be really appreciated.

i realize this, but tires23 says its no problem for a civic.. he said its a common size *shurG*
I realize i'm probably gonna either replace the rims, or get suspension.. either way i'm gonna keep the tires as i don't think i can get my money back...

Seems like your rims don't have the proper offset, and that's your main problem. 195/50/15 should help elminate rubbing if there is any, but 195 width is 195 mm no matter which way you look at it. It doesn't matter if you get 195/55 or 195/50, the tires are going to stick out the same distance. The only thing that will change is the sidewall height. 55's will be a bit a higher in height than the 50's.
I would suggest you get rims with a proper offset. Spacers are not safe to use as well. I would never put spacers on my ride.

I'll sell you my tires for the price i paid - $400. They are Kumho 712s. Otherwise, i'm gonna see if Tires23 will take them back or exchange them. I'll also get new rims (probably Rota blacks which weight 10lbs). I have a pic on my phone, but i can't upload it until i'm at work. Thanks for the tips.

dude, if they told you it was a normal size which it isn't because its not in the manufacter's spec they shouldn't be recommending it. they should accept that and take the tires back and give you the proper size...

I wanted 205/50/R15, and asked for it. I said only that i was going to use them in autocross, and wanted the Kumho 712s or similar... he suggested this tire and size. I have an email from the guy at tires23 stating specifically that this size will work - which is by what everyone here is saying is false.
This is my first time dealing with tires23. I don't work in the auto industry so when i goto an affiliate, i trust them and their recommendations. I also have been told outside of TCC that tires23 is the best place to go. If they are recommending the wrong size, this is not gonna sit well with how i am to view other affiliates...
I haven't heard back from them on specifically how much of the cost of the tires i'll have to eat. When i get that info, i'll post again.

David,
We are sorry for this problem. If you really want to exchange the tires, we can give you credits back for them.
To further clarify the problem. Like one of the member mentioned above, it's the rims that require spacers (3mm to clear the calipers) and hence pushing the wheels further out. The 195mm width of the tires stay unchanged although 55 series is slightly taller than 50 series. It's the width that causes rubbing if there's any. We believe 205 will give you more chance of rubbing.
205/50/15 weren't available on the specials but we've also suggested Kumho 711 in 195/50/15 and 205/50/15 to you.
Afterall, we want our customers to be happy, please drop by sometime and we'll try to fix everything up for you.
