tires rubbing

i bought motegi ff7 17" gloss black and they have an offset of +42. They rub on the inside of the wheel well, not the outer fender. Its rubbing against a piece of plastic that is part of that underneath like mud guard that is underneath your front bumper. Can i remove that or is it better just to buy some 3mm wheel spacers, and i read on another topic that they dont make 3mm spacers, so ???:shrugs:

imported_hdave 20-Mar-2006 01:16 PM

actually they do make 3mm spacers, i found out.

whats the tire size?
and what drop do you have?

maca 20-Mar-2006 01:24 PM

i have a 1.6" drop and the tire size is 205/40/17. yeah i thought they did make 3mm spacers because the guy at pickering tire told me he sold them, i just didnt want to say that they did and then like 30 people would correct me :P

wierd... u shouldnt have rubbing problem

does it happen at low speeds? fast cornering?
during turning? front? back?

can u pls give more info on the rubbing pls

also, what shocks and springs do you have

maca 20-Mar-2006 01:31 PM

KYB AGX Shocks and struts. Eibach Sportline lowering springs. It only happens when i am cornering, turning too much and going slower, or not turning as much and going faster, if i dont go really slow around a corner when my car is full it rubs alot. it never happens when im driving straight

imported_hdave 20-Mar-2006 01:32 PM

you can try to make your shocks a stiffer setting which might fix the problem or make it less

so it rubs in the rear too right?

maca 20-Mar-2006 01:36 PM

oh no, not in the rear it just rubs on the front

maca 20-Mar-2006 01:36 PM

do i have to take off the wheels to tighten the shocks?

imported_hdave 20-Mar-2006 01:37 PM

can u pinpoint whats its rubbing against?

with a 3mm spacer, youll have an offset of 39mm which will most definately rub agaisnt the fender

maca 20-Mar-2006 01:38 PM

oh i thought with a 3mm spacer i would have an offset of 45. it goes the other way? cuz the stock offset of my car is +45 (so i hear)

maca 20-Mar-2006 01:42 PM

yeah im gonna go take a picture of it

imported_hdave 20-Mar-2006 01:43 PM

the lower the offset the further the wheel sticks out
the higher the offset the further the wheel is into the car

example:
a 40 offset wheel will stick out more than a 45 offset wheel

there is no way to make your 42 offset wheel to 45. and yours is rubbing on the inside so you wouldnt want it closer to 45, you'd want it further away

i think its bent that piece of plastic a bit already from rubbing against it, i got the wheels installed last wednesday and have only put about 100 km on it.

imported_hdave 20-Mar-2006 01:47 PM

hows the camber? positive or negative?
do you have a camber kit?

maca 20-Mar-2006 01:50 PM

i dont have a camber kit and i dont know what that means. positive or negative? is that how much my wheels lean in or out? they look verticle to me

imported_hdave 20-Mar-2006 01:53 PM

yea from your picture it doesnt look like you have a camber problem

crap sorry man i have absolutely no idea whats causing this problem and why its happening. lets wait for someone else with more insight like alwaysoverkill

have you tried taking it to a ship and asking them what the problem could be and possible fixes?

maca 20-Mar-2006 02:02 PM

no not yet i havnet had time, i might be able to take it to one today, hopefully they can tell me but i might wait a day and see what people on here say. thankyou for your all your help

DumbasSi 20-Mar-2006 02:31 PM

The 42 offset wheels I had on my old Civic rubbed in the exact same place. It only happened at full lock. I just got used to it because it only happened occasionaly.

maca 20-Mar-2006 02:51 PM

mine rub in that spot and on the outer fender i think because when i go around corners fast and the weight shifts to one side, it rubs on that side. So if the offset of my wheel is +42, and i got 3mm spacers, would that make the offset +45?
