Tires question
 

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a set of tires but theres so many out there I don't even know where to begin. (sorry I'm a newb)

I have found out that Kumho Esctas 711 are good summer tires and Falken 512s are good for rain. But is there any other tires that's also good that won't cost me an arm and a leg?

Just in case you guys need to know the tire size is 205/40r16

I got a quote for $560 for the kumhos and falkens so far but I only asked for pricings for those tires cause I knew they were decent. Any good?

- daily driver?

Not a daily driver, probably drive 3-4 times a week.
No Track

Im just a university student so I can't be spending alot on this but if it's a good investment and I won't have to worry about it for a few seasons then I'll be happy. Mainly for the summer.

Pricing wise I dont really want to spend over $500 but again if it's good and will last long then I won't mind. I guess that means tread life is important too =D

i would look into Yokohama ES100, i believe they are priced at 82/tire...check out tirerack for more detailed pricing

i choose that because

- good threadlife (~40000 - 50000km)
- good dry traction
- excellent in rain

82 a tire?? tire rack is american pricing. I doubt es100's are that cheap in Canadian dollars. Plus they don't make the es100's in 205/40/16. I highly doubt you would be able to get a set of 4 Yoko Es100's for less than $500 cdn.

I believe tires23 is having some sort of tire sale. The have it posted under the vendor section of this forum. They are selling Fierce UHP tires. I don't know if they have your size or not, but you can call them and check.

Tires23 is nice to deal with. I bought my rims and tires from them last spring. Really nice people to deal with, and they're honest with you.

I have Yoko es100's, and they are decent summer tires. I only say decent because I know there are better tires out there, but you gotta pay more $$$ for those other tires. I would suggest the falken 512's. They are good bang for the buck. I don't know if you can get those under $500 dollars either, but they are good tires. However those tires wear out fast.

I am looking in to Fuzion ZRi & General Exclaim UHP.. tell me whicc one is better...

Pirelli P3000 has good tread life...but not like my mom

well obviously there are lots of better tires out there than ES100s...the price is more. 512 is an all season tire, he said he's looking for summer tires. 512 is a decent choice and it's about the same price as es100. why get 512 when you can get es100 that will have better dry/wet traction and as well as better tread life?

But I got a quote from this shop: Falken 512 + install for 520$
What about kumho esctas 711? Good bad? I got a quote for 560$.

I don't know if the pricing is good or bad. I also PM'd tire23 but their spring special doesn't include the tire size Im lookin for =(

wrong size tire for a 98 Civic, Kumhos are ****, you get what you pay for with tires.

correct size is 205/45/16.

oh and yeah Yokohama is a way better tire, even the ES100 is a great all around tire.

i totally agree with you, that's why i recommended these over the falken 512s

I only said that size because thats whats on the rims right now. They came off an integra so I thought they would be similiar sizing.

If I were to go with a lower profile such as the 205/40r16 as compared to the larger profile 205/45r16 will there be a significant difference?

well smaller tires do several things... they make your engine rev higher on the highway, but you get better acceleration. they also make ride quality somewhat harsher. your speedo and odometer will also be off calibration. the lower the car as well as reducing clearance, so your undercarriage is more prone to damage (esp like speed bumps and stuff)... and also smaller tires make the wheel gap a lot bigger than it should be so the car looks funny.

I recommend getting the right size tires for a daily driver.

Ok, well thas daily driver tires, say you wanted 205 low profiles for summer use only, that need to be good in both wet and dry and have to be able to work well on track, I was looking into KDW's but don't no if there worth the money, cuz they certaintly don't look that way. Any advice on tires?

es100 are not almost the same price as the 512's. You can get the 512's for a lot less. He wanted a good tire for the price, and he stated he had $500 to spend, and that's why I recommended the 512's.

He found the 512's for $520 installed. I doubt you can get the es100's for around $520 installed. If you can, please show me the shop, because I would love to shop there for my next set of tires.

I get tires in the States, their volume of tire sales allows for much more competitive pricing, and the current exchange rate just begs for a cross-border shopping trip!!!!

es100 205/45/16 is 78.00US from tirerack....that converts to 91.6153 CAD

plus shipping, plus customs, plus taxes, etc...
