Tires

Hey everyone...

Just wondering if anyone else has their rims wrapped in MICHELIN XGT's, and what they think of them...I have to say that they are probably the worst tread pattern i have ever driven on... and the worst OEM tire that Honda has decided to put on some of their wheels, no offense to Rich who sold me the wheels, its just IMO that the tread on these tires doesnt grab and its really easy to chirp gears without hammering the gas...I know that these come stock on GSR Blades and SIR Rims but im not sure what other stock rims that come wrapped with these...

Anyone else agree with my opinion or disagree??

Cantonagod 28-Apr-2003 05:28 PM

They are better than the Firestones that came stock on my car

1niceSi 28-Apr-2003 07:08 PM

AGREED....they are really bad tires....I hated them on my SiRs....if someone gave me them for free, I wouldn't put them back on my car.

SiR Power 28-Apr-2003 07:48 PM

:nods: There not that great!

imported_eric 28-Apr-2003 11:34 PM

wait till u drive them on wet weather.

imported_ryanhook 29-Apr-2003 12:33 AM

The XGTs definitely aren't one of Michelin's better tires... that's for sure... but anyone that's owned higher-end Michelin tires will tell you they make excellent tires.

I've been quite satisfied with my Pilots.

EL_Sport 29-Apr-2003 01:26 PM

The XGTs have to be one the worst tires I have ever had. I replaced them less than a month after I got my car. They suck in the dry, rain, snow, etc. Just useless.

:nods: Me too.

XGT are great if you like to break traction!

imported_SiR_YO 29-Apr-2003 06:20 PM

I just bought a new 2002 SiR and yes, I agree the XGT's are really bad, although I haven't driven really hard on them yet (still breaking in engine) I can tell they don't grip

speaking of tires, I've just purchased 16X7 Rota Circuit 8's, and just looking around for best overall tire..

many people recommend the Falken AZENIS, but also people have told me Kumho 712's are best "bang for buck" .. as for now I plan on doing mostly city/hwy driving.. no track... yet... what other tires are good?

imported_ryanhook 29-Apr-2003 06:26 PM

SiR_YO, take a serious look at the Yokohama AVS ES100. The Azenis is probably too much of a competition-oriented tire for your needs.

imported_Joker 29-Apr-2003 06:44 PM

so the firstone stockies are better than the XGT's

SilverCRXSi 29-Apr-2003 10:03 PM

If these are the tires that come on the 99-00 SiR's then I think I have them too.
I'm more than happy with them and mine grip pretty good.
I guess XGT's are the Pilots?

imported_SiR_YO 29-Apr-2003 11:03 PM

Ryan Hook:

mmm.. didn't hear too good of reviews for the Yok's.. like they're a "decent" tire.. but if I'm not mistaken they are more expensive than the Kumho's.. and like I said the Kumho's are a better bang for your buck kinda tire.. Azenis are kinda pricy I find, but I've heard nothing but GOOD stuff about it

imported_SiR_YO 29-Apr-2003 11:05 PM

SilverCRXSi:

No, pilots are another line of michelin.. I believe pilots come stock on Porche's and shiet.. they're a decent tire, but too pricey as well.. XGT are just the worst.. All Season crappers.. I think Honda did that on purpose so ppl will go pure aftermarket, and performance

Funny that you should say that because every review I've read said they're excellent tires. The Kumhos are good too, but I guess it comes down to preference... you also have to realize that the Yok ES100s are new tires so not as many people have had a chance to use them as the Kumhos.

I put Yokohama and Michelin at the top of my list when looking for tires, but that's my preference. That said, you'd definitely be satisfied with the Falkens or Kumhos.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't say Yok's make bad tires (well, aside from the Parada's LOL).. you're right the ES100's are new, so are the Falken Azenis' ...

like you said though I think I will be happy with whatever I choose.. cuz I won't be on a track anytime soon.. as long as I get those shitty XGT's off I really don't care!

The XGT's are not the same as the Pilots. The XGT's are an all-season economy tire and the Pilots are a high-performance summer tire. If you do have the XGT's I can't believe that you think they grip pretty good, either they are brand new or you haven't driven them that hard or had them in any kind of moisture. :D

Thanks for the clearup SiR_Yo.

EL_Sport: my XGT's are pretty much new, maybe thats why i find them good. Then again my old tires (also XGT's, but 14"s) were pretty much bald.
I've driven them in rain and they're fine. But then again I slow down in the rain, takes longer to stop.
Ah well. Maybe I'll get some Pilots once these tires are dead.

np always glad to help.. the only thing with pilots is their price, and that you don't really need them unless you are planning to go WIDE..

that's one of the reason's why the come stock on Porches and stuff.. cuz they need a wide tire..

if you are looking to save a bit of $ then I would suggest Kumho 712's .. great summer tire for their price... decent in the rain too.. **** in ice/snow, but what can you expect..
